Fire Extinguishers - How Many and Where??

I was curious how many fire extinguishers most people carry on their rigs and the general location they are mounted. I've mounted 2 of them in our 35' MH and although I don're really like looking at them, I've mounted them in obvious places where people can see them in case it's someone else beside me or DW who needs to grab one. I have one mounted right inside the door which is mid-coach, and one mounted right by the doghouse on our gaser. I contemplated if i should have one mounted in the rear of the coach as well.

We have the factory supplied unit by the front door with another in a storage compartment with my tools. Also have a Halon Fire Extinguisher mounted behind the fridg.

I have thought about adding one in the bedroom.

I would add one next to each side of the bed where it would be easy access for you or your DW to grab in case of emergency while sleeping. Have you considered a remote extinguisher for your engine compartment or for your refrigerator-- if you are using an RV style refrigerator?

I like the idea of the automatic Halon extinguisher behind the fridge. Probably not necessary if you don't have propane to the fridge. You need an extinguisher in the bedroom.

First off, I removed the "normal" chemical FE's and replaced them with Cold Fire extinguishers.

The chemical ones cake up quickly if not maintained regularly. I now store them in my "rolling garage" to use for BBQ's and campfires if needed.

I have three small ones, SS20's, located in the bedroom next to my side of the bed, one in the kitchen and one in the rear of my Saturn Vue. I have one large one, SS45, located just inside the front entry door.

Then I have one SS-200-AFFF with a 4 foot hose mounted in my diesel engine compartment.

I had one SS-30 Halon mounted in the rear Norcold compartment but when I changed over to the residential Samsung fridge I relocated the SS-30 Halon to my inverter compartment.

I recently bought a new SS-30 for $50 from an owner who never mounted it and I plan to install that one in my Aqua-Hot diesel compartment which is shared with the inverter. I will then have double coverage for that area.

The only place not protected is my Onan 7.5K generator.

Other than the last SS-30 I acquired, I purchased all of my units from Mac. He's a very knowledgeable guy.

Thanks for the comments. I had never really been exposed to the thought of an automatic fire extinguisher before. Interesting. We normally use our MH for trips to state parks within a 3-4 hour distance from home, and about once a month. When you’re not in the rig as often as a full-timer sometimes it’s harder to keep these types of things in the forefront of your mind. I think putting one on each side of the bed is a really good idea too. Better to be safe than sorry.

"Bigger is better" is also a good philosophy to follow...

I had the misfortune of finding out just how useless a small 1kg extinguisher was against a small fire... Less than 10 seconds of action and that was it, extinguisher dead....

I now make sure I have 6kg extinguishers at hand.

Even when we go camping with the tent, we have a couple of 6kg extinguishers at hand...

Don't forget smoke & Co2 detectors while you're at it...

One next to entrance door, one at about eye level in corner of bedroom (easily accessible but next to covered plumbing stack so I don't bump into it) a 3rd extinguisher in an unlocked compartment under driver (near Genset and LP tank).
