First RV purchase
The wife and I are going to be making our first RV purchase in the next year. We have looked at a great deal of motor homes and are leaning towards the Itasca Sunstar 35f or the Winnebago Vista 35f. We love the bath and a half floor plan, the L shaped sofa and the midship tv. We are planning a trip to Hershey PA next year for the big RV show just to see if there is anything else out there that fits what we like. We will be towing a 2007 Saturn Vue behind what ever we buy. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forums and welcome to the wonderful world of RV'ing! Boy are you in for some.. um... fun! yea thats it.. fun. :-) Make sure you drive everything and spend a few hours looking at each. I'm sure there are lotsa thoughts from many and a lot depends on what you'll be doing with this coach. How many miles a year, how many days living, how long to keep it....etc...etc...
It sounds like you're looking to buy new, so for me, that's out and don't like the depreciation hit to the point of being well underwater, the day you get it home.
For the same money new, one could drop back to an older.....and let's say....a 40ft American Revolution DP on a spartan chassis that's already depreciated with quality and ride to make those others look like a Yugo, but that's just me that likes older and proven.

Some say it is best to purchase from a dealer close to your home as they are more apt to promptly fit you in to their schedule for minor and major repairs.

from NH. Check out the Bounder 35E from Fleetwood. It's a 1 1/2 bath model with a large shower, large wardrobes. However front mounted tv.

I also recommend buying a high end used coach, and trying to buy your last coach first. Best bang for the buck.

Make sure your drive a tag axle rig before you make the final choice. I love my Dutchstar but regret not buying a tag axle coach. Ride and handling are superior as well as carrying capacity. Ditto on high end used models too. Best of luck!

Again, and just IMO, unless you're forced through a dealer's door with a warranty (ugh) in hand, a dealer will be the very last place I will usually go for repairs. Having said that, I did let Camping World RV of Fort Myers, redo my brakes once and can't say I had any complaints and have often used the store for some installs that I didn't want to do at my age. Replacing the front coil springs are one example.

Good luck with your first motor home purchase. When you find that special piece of equipment and enjoyment, invest in someone who know motor homes and have him go through it front to back and top to bottom. It is not like going and buying a car. These thing have all the systems in large truck, an electrical system that can drive you crazy not to mention all the other systems associated with a home. If there are no maintenance records make sure you get everything serviced at the current maintenance interval. A weekend camp out is not enough to properly checkout everything, make it a week and have the person doing the check close by. I know this sounds complicated but I know from first hand experience this can be a challenging experience and you need to make sure things work properly. I have had mine for just over 2 years and I learn something everyday. I really enjoy my current coach but I have learned a lot of things working on various systems in the coach. Some I have done and some were farmed out.
Find an independent motor home specialist to check it out for you!!!
