Flooded
We parked our 1999 Monaco Diplomat at the River to enjoy out RV in the winter time.
Last Thursday morning we had an unexpected flood. Our RV was at the lowest point of the park and got hit the hardest. Of what I heard it flooded about 2 feet and you can actually see the flood line.
Now the Adjuster i coming to take a look at it Monday and I would like some advise on what I should do
I know that the electronics in the bay under the driver were partially submerged.
Should I steer the adjuster to a Total Loss or try to have them replace the panels.
I have spend about $25,000 over the last year on in motion satellite, 2 new AC units plus about Engine etc.
If they declare it a Total Loss ( that is what the lady from the insurance company said they would likely do), I'm screwed and it wasn't even my fault

I don't want to be cruel, but then whose fault was it?? If insurance co. wants to declare it a total lose, compare what they're willing to pay with what you could get by parting it out. 2 ft. of water probably hasn't ruined the engine, radiator, 2 new A/C's, satellite dish, etc. See if the parts add up to more.

To start I am sorry to read of your problems. The insurance company does not care probably what you have put into it, what they are going to do I think if totaled is pay you the "Fair book price" as like found in Kelly blue book or more the likely the N.A.D.A book to find its value. If you have spent that much money on it I would say to try and repair it and keep using it. I guess it all depends what they say and how much it is going to cost to repair it vs totaling it, they will go the route that is cheapest for them. Look up the value of your Coach so you have a idea before the adjuster comes to see you. You can also go to your local financial institution and they can tell you what it is worth also. Good luck.

I have to ask why not crank up and move it before it got flooded. No matter what you have done to it the value is only what the book says a 1999 diplomat is worth.

Mother Nature's fault, the weather man, who I guess or just bad luck. The coach still drives but there are a lot of beeping sounds even when I turn it off

Nobody told me and we were not staying in it. This all happened between 1:00 and 2:00 AM.
When we woke up in our house the next morning we saw the news. Even the people that were actually sleeping in the RV Park had to evacuate and leave there RV's behind. The water came up that quick

Probable total loss. On ours we carry full replacement value but after 5 years it changed to original cost value. More expensive but worth it to us.
The insurance company won't care how much you spent on upgrades or maintenance. They only care about what it would cost to repair vs total loss payout. You could see what they offer and ask about buying it back and parting it out or repairing it.

I know a man, a CA fire dept captain. Left his RV in a known CA fire danger area and it burned. Things happen.

Total it. Do you want to risk all the problems not being fixed?
The carpet, panels, cabinets, main floor, sub floor, stud work, trans, diff, all wiring and electronics below that level.
It's done. Take off the parts you want to keep, and let them total it.

What bad luck.
Sorry for your loss.
The insurance company is going to look at what a 1999
is worth. You may be able to get them to use the highest
figure if you can prove the renovations.
Depending on coverage you may have other items that
are covered inside.
It is best not to move or cleanup anything.
After the final adjustment, ask about a buyback.
I did that years ago on a car the ex totaled.
They sold it back very cheep.
Then I sold it for parts as it had many popular parts.
You could also then rebuild it and get a salvage title
if you wanted to use it.

Mr D, are you saying if your Coach is totaled they will pay you the MRSP of the Coach in 2002? If so your insurance must be out-of-sight? I asked my Erie insurance agent just last year about this and the amount I had my Coach insured for and I was told that if totaled that they would pay the current book value. So adjusted my insurance I had on it to bring it inline with the cost I had it insured for with the book value, no sense in paying insurance premium for something I won't get if something happens. I was just wondering how you had your set up?

I really doubt they will total I cannot imagine the total cost to be $20,000. I'm going to have it fixed and trade it in next yer for a newer model

2 feet of water is probably not enough to get above the basement lockers. Where are the engine electronics located? The generator probably got wet.

Sorry this happened. The term Flash Flood is accurate! This can happen in a blink of an eye. I would have to believe that if the water level was high enough to enter the compartments, you have issues beyond electrical connections. Your axles and transmission have been submerged and they are not designed to be submerged, water will enter the vents and that will lead to other damage. Brakes, ride height valves, air dryer's etc. all now need to be inspected, corrected, or replaced. Make sure all water has been removed from frame rails, exhaust pipes, etc. If mine, I would let the insurance company take it away, there are other really nice coaches available in the same or close model year as yours. I think it will become a frustrating endeavor to own a coach after a good submersion.
