Sounds like a good plan.... thanks again for the input from everyone!

I think it's in 2016 that the Feds have mandated that any states transponder for a toll road is suppose to work at any toll road in the US. And, yes it's not cheep, if your towing they count your axels and charge accordingly.

Jeff
I have a Sun Pass and one thing you need to do is go online and check the charges that they bill you. I have a 45' class A DP and tow a vehicle behind me. I have had numerous occasions where the sensors in the road read me having 6 axles instead of 5. The reason is the sensor is picking up the mud flap on the back of the coach as an axle. Doesn't happen too often, but enough.

Does anyone know what the toll is on the toll road for a Class A and toad?

Thanks,

I travel from the start to the Lake Worth exit 3 to 4 times a year in a Itasca 40u with a toad. I have used both and now use I95 all the time, it is no more busy than I75. In my opinion this is the best, cheapest and usually the least crowded.
I do have SunPass on both MH and toad but don't use them any more.

How would you travel to the Keys? Lake Worth is still well north of the Miami hub. Would you just stay on I95 until it turns into US1?

Sunpass has reciprocal agreements with EZ Pass which works many places along the east coast. We are currently in NC so we have EZ Pass. Initial cost is small for the convenience and we have saved enough to pay for it.

The NO Toll way I have used many times.
I95S to Ft Lauderdale Exit 818W(Griffin RD) to US27S.
Then 997S to where it ends at US1 at Florida City.

A much more scenic drive through farm and everglades land.
On 997 south stop at one of the many vegetable stands.
Spend some of that saved Toll road $$.

Yup ... that works too !!
I think what most folks agree on is avoiding 95/1 thru Miami. it just kinda' wears you out before you get to the Keys.

No, I would not travel on I-95 until it turns into US1! While US 1 is a multi- lane divided highway all the way to Cutler Ridge where it goes to a 4 lane highway, it has a lots of traffic with many cross streets and traffic signals. All it takes is one fender bender and it becomes a nightmare. TRiker56 offers a reasonable alternative if you do not want to pay any tolls, although Griffin Road is a heavily traveled urban roadway.

We retired from south Miami-Dade County and when we visit our son in Kendall or go to Key West, we take the turnpike all the way to the Homestead Extension and then use that portion of the turnpike all the way to Florida City.
I too grew up in S. Fla. Plus one on this suggestion.
