We are planning to go to the FL Keys from South Carolina.We’ll take I-95 south.We are trying to decide if we should take the Florida toll road or stay on I-95 in Florida.

Does anyone know what the toll is on the toll road for a Class A and toad?

I just used the toll road last week. from Wildwood, where it starts, to Ft Lauderdale exit 54, it was $43.55 with my toad. It was worth it to me as I missed a lot of traffic.

We were in Ft Lauderdale a couple weeks. They drive a bit different there.......

No matter the cost, taking the turnpike is better than driving in Miami on I-95. In fact, I-95 ends at Vizcaya where you would have to drive down US 1 with all the traffic lights and cross streets. Coming from South Carolina, you can avoid a lot of the tolls by exiting I-95 in Ft. Pierce and jump on the Florida Turnpike there.

We retired from south Miami-Dade County and when we visit our son in Kendall or go to Key West, we take the turnpike all the way to the Homestead Extension and then use that portion of the turnpike all the way to Florida City.

We did the same as coastieSCPO described. We paid tolls with cash, but getting a sunpass at first toll plaza may be more convenient. BTW, a great overnight CG is Larry and Penny Thompson county park/CG. Just a short drive from the toll-road, perhaps 1/2 mile. From there Key West is about 6 hours at posted speed limit, including a stop for refreshment/nature break.

I believe I picked up my transponder in a Publix. Fla makes it very easy to take your money.

Transponder is $20.

Thought about getting one but we won't be going to Florida again so it wasn't worth it.

Take the Turnpike, it bypasses Fort Lauderdale & Miami. It's worth it regardless of cost. For a two way trip, the Sunpass toll discount will more than pay for the transponder and then you have it for future trips. You can move it from MH to car and it figures out the correct toll to charge.

Do whatever you need to do, at any cost, to avoid the traffic on I95 in that area. Especially during the week.

I live in the Keys, I always get on the turnpike at Ft Pierce and take it all the way to US 1 in Homestead, FL. US 1 into the Keys. In south FLORIDA they now have toll by plate, if you don't have a transponder Florida will send you a bill (no toll booth). I think it's in 2016 that the Feds have mandated that any states transponder for a toll road is suppose to work at any toll road in the US. And, yes it's not cheep, if your towing they count your axels and charge accordingly.

That's for the portable transponder....
the stick on one is $4.95 -- and they used to give you $5.00 credit in your account ( I don't know if they still do that ) so the actual cost is 0

Yes, a SinPass mini. You can get them at Publix or drug stores. I think we got ours at CVS. It takes less than a day to activate so as soon as you hit Florida if you have any stops, pick one up. You get the price off your bill so it is free and 20% off the regular toll rate.

We also take the Turnpike as far as possible. Usually we have a stop in Stuart so we get on at Jupiter and get off at the end to get to the Keys.

We have traveled it several times. One time we traveled 95 through Miami corridor at 1 am in the night. NO traffic at all. that offers an option to tolls. now we live on the FL west coast and there are no tolls. thank God. We only have to pay $20 for the MH and Trailer to leave NJ at the DMBridge into Delaware. after that there are no tolls for us. going back we only pay $18 at the Annapolis Bridge to travel north.

X2. The transponders are about $5 now & are sold at welcome centers out of a vending machine. As was stated, you can also just let them send you a bill. There is a discount for using the transponder.

Get on at Fort Pierce and take it to where it terminates on US1 at Homestead. There is a Flying J in Fort Pierce close to the intersection.
