I received my Flying J RV Value Card in the mail today. The instructions on the back of the card say to swipe it at the pumps for my discount.

Since you have to go inside to pay when fueling up at the truck area anyway, what good does it do me to swipe it at the pumps? Even if I fill up at the RV island, I go inside to pay, as I don't want the pump shutting off at the $50 mark.

Craig,

Just bring your card inside and they will run it thru and give you your discount.

I always run my card(s) through the pumps, and routinely get up to 80 gallon of fuel. I think I've only encountered pumps with a cut-off amount at one Flying J and it was definately above $50! When that happens, I just run the card(s) again and keep pumping. It does bug me that I have to go inside at Flying J to get my receipts, but I guess I'll just live with that.

Paul,

Do you use the RV island or fuel up at a truck island?

If you are going inside to pay anyway, i.e.if you are using the truck islands, you don't need to bother with swiping the card in advance. And there is no limit on the truck islands once the pump is activated for you. But if you use the RV island you can swipe both RV card and your credit card at most FJs and don't have to go inside at all.

Since FJs are franchises, each one can have slightly different procedures

Thanks Gary. But as Paul eluded to, either way I'll have to go inside if I want a receipt, correct?

It also depends on which credit card you use as to how much you can purchase before pump shuts off. Most stations I can get up in the $90.0 value no problem.

We have filled up at some Flying J's where the receipt was dispensed at the pump. Hopefully, they will all do this in the near future.

I have never had the pump at a Flying J stop at a specific dollar amount, but it sure does at a Shell station. I just run the card through again. Just a small irritation that I can deal with.

I just finished a major cross country trip and utilized Flying J exclusively. I used my credit card and Flying J card at the pumps and never had the pump shut off and most of my fillups were in the $200-$300 range. I got my receipt and discount at every one without going inside. I used the RV pumps each time.

I second that....although not many of the pumps had the receipts yet....Never had an issue with inserting the J card then the credit card when prompted...
Just traveled from Virginia west through West Virginia and Kentucy and up to Indiana and then back down and across to Florida...Did the J's as much as I could.

RV island mostly, truck island if the RV island is backed up (which is probably about 1 out of 6 or so). Most of our travels are from Florida to New Mexico, and as far north as Kansas.

How much of a discount are you getting? We use to use the Loves card until that went down the tubes.
