FMCA Renewal
My membership is up for renewal. I originally signed up because of the tire program and the fly you home if sick program. Hopefully i won't need the fly home program. I keep reading about issues with the tire program. What do you think of FMCA, especially now it is not just motor homes?

The emergency fly program alone is worth more than the membership cost. I used the tire program a couple years ago. Doesn't bother me that towables are now allowed.

FMCA Renewal
There are several more benefits that are free or reduced cost. I have checked the tire program for our coach and the best price elsewhere is $400 higher. FMCA Road Rescue at a cost of $69/yr is a good buy. There is an insurance for those not on Medicare that some should find of interest. The two cellular plans for data work well for many. The magazine, Family RVing, is very good and included in your membership. There have been 8 pages added for towable RVs without changing the content for motor homes. 8 pages is a printing multiple used when publishing a magazine. I personally enjoy volunteering at National Conventions and the seminars are great.

To provide a contrarian perspective:
-The FMCA tire program is nice if you are intent on buying Michelin tires. Next year I plan on replacing my drive axle tires with the same Hankook tires I have on my steer axle. They are significantly less expensive than the Michelin's even with the FMCA discount and we think they are quieter and provide a better ride.
-If you read the fine print on the FMCA emergency medical benefit, it does not guarantee that it will return you to the US or to your home area. It simply states that, if medically necessary, it will transport you to a location where appropriate medical care can be provided. All other benefits, such as returning your RV to your home, are dependent on approval to transport the patient and that approval decision is entirely in the hands of the insurance company. There are hundreds (thousands?) of posts on RV forums that misrepresent this benefit. If you think about it for a moment, even MASA and SkyMed, two much more expensive services, don't guarantee transport to your home; if they can't promise to take you home for 10x the price how can a benefit on a $50/year FMCA membership afford to promise it?
If you take away these benefits, then what exactly does the FMCA membership buy me? A magazine? RV park discounts that I can get from several other sources? A road service program similar to several others?

I'd rather go to a facility that will take care of me then home....could die by the time you get home makes sense to me

There are better buys for tires than the FMCA discounted price. We have had MASA since 2010 and they picked up a $49,000 medical helicopter ride for me that I doubt the FMCA plan would have covered as it was less than 25 miles and not to my home. We will renew because it is so cheap, but also because of the 4-wheeler club within it requires membership.

We were members for five years but are no longer members. I originally joined because of common interests, motor homes. I guess they couldn't make a go at just that so they had to bring in everything else. I still have my subscription to motor home magazine and enjoy every issue. As for the tire discount and other health related issues both can be obtained else where for less.

I continued my membership because I am also taking advantage of the roadside after good sam raised their rates.
I am not a MH snob so that didn't keep me from renewing either. I still display my membership placards proudly.
Some hope of return home is better than no hope of return home. The cost for membership is insignificant. If you have a better plan for that type of assistance then go for it. I don't know that one has any better guarantees than another. They all have limitations.
My OEM tires are just expensive and only available in Michelin. Considering changing the tire size as others have to open up my options. Haven't checked their tire prices for the other options. The tire discount wasn't important to me.
I like them because they do offer quite a bit for a low membership cost.

The FMCA tire program now includes Continental, check the FMCA website.
As far as medical transportation, I know of a recent transport issue where FMCAssist flew a lady from Iowa to WA first class along with a traveling nurse.
About the towable issue, no big deal. You see a towable owner walking down the street at a convention, no way could you tell what they have. They don't have a big sign around their neck that says "I have a trailer!"

When I had a 5th wheel I was not able to join. I now have a Class A and joined this year. I am full time now so where ever they transport me for medical treatment is fine. The manufacturer put Michelin tires on my RV for a reason and I will replace with the same with a FMCA discount. My insurance and extended warranty have road side assistance so I don't need to buy the FMCA plan.

Where can you find another roadside assistance plan for $69 per month?
