I also took the door off and took it to them so they could pull the window because I wanted to get the vinyl inside skin re-stretched and glued because it had pulled back and wrinkled.
Taking the door off was a pain but saved a bundle.

IN the US you have to have the window DOT certified before it is put in the coach. The fog doctor that is talked about above takes your windows out of the coach cuts new glass for them seals it and sends them to a company in memphis to have them tempered and DOT certified.

Actually, the guy that did mine separated the glass, cleaned it and resealed it. It is in effect the same window.

Right, it IS the same glass. If one gets broken during the process THEN the new glass has to be sent to Memphis to have it tempered. When they did my 10 windows, the same glass was used, just separated, cleaned, resealed and re-installed.
Perfect job and service!

This is why I specified "frameless windows". They seems to be more difficult to fix, and probably more tricky on the way to seal them outside. They do chrge a fix amount of about $375, irrelevent of the size. Do not understand that it took a week for only 4 windows. Had also the feeling that they were under staff. Same office do manufacture house windows

I think is was around $2k for all 10. I don't own the coach any more but when I sold it they were still nice and clear.

You are correct as far as what you said. I was at the Fogdoctor shop in searcy Jully 2013. 3 of my windows had broken seals. They could be taken apart cleaned and resealed. Two windows were severely etched ( Looks white and you can barely see through them) The person I was talking to said those are not fixable they would have to take them out cut new glass and then send it to memphis to be tempered and DOT certified. You are right about the ones that just have to be cleaned and resealed they can be reused and do not need to be recertified. If I was willing to take the windows to memphis and bring them back it was going to take about three days if I remember correctly if they sent the windows on a truck was going to take about a week. I had other commitments and could not leave my MH that long so I have not had them fixed yet. When I get some spare time I am going to go back and have them fix them. I believe if my memory serves me right it was going to be about 1200 to 1400 for 5 windows.

I am curious....we will likely go ahead and use Suncoast since we will be in Florida visiting WDW. If they cannot repair the glass (due to etching??), do they have the capability to replace glass?

Yes they do. Their main business is manufacturing windows for conventional construction and got into the RV business as a sideline.

From the way the guy at fog doctor talked they just take regular glass and cut it to the desired shape. It is not tempered and they can cut it however then need to. I would imagine any shop that does custom glass work has the capability to do that

If they are using regular glass in these RV's , is that not unsafe? If that glass were to break it would cut you into pieces. I would never let them do any vehicle of mine if they don't use safety glass . I don't care how good they are. I know you didn't ask for my opinion but I care about my fellow RV'ers safety.

If glass need to be replaced they get new one's nearby and have them tempered and tinted. Tempered glass cannot be cut anymore.
Do not believe it is legally right to have a motorhome window not tempered.
If you deal with Suncoast make sure that the seal around the window is well done especially for frameless type (mine look shrinked) and that there is no water leak (had one with the emergency window type. They use black sealant while mine were clear type.

I was addressing where they get the glass in this post in the post above I mentioned having the glass tempered and DOT certified. To the best of my knowledge all glass starts life as regular glass and is then put through a tempering process for vehicles. Once glass is tempered it cannot be cut so you have to have it as standard glass to cut it. The Fog Doctor takes regular glass of the appropriate thickness. They cut it to fit and here is what I think you might have missed my earlier post. They send it to a company in Memphis Tennessee to have it tempered. The company then has it certified by the Department of Transportation as safe to use in a moving vehicle.
