For anyone buying at PPL

For anyone buying, or thinking of buying at PPL - since I am in the area, I have a recommendation.

Nearby to PPL, there is an independent shop named Bob Jones RV - and they perform inspections among other things. They are not cheap, but they are good. Further, they are not engine mechanics, although they do some light chassis work like shocks and jacks.

They are about 10 minutes from PPL. I used them for a lot of things on my old 40', and I always found them good to deal with and wouldn't go anywhere else in Houston.

My understanding was that you get what you get at PPL and if you want it inspected, you can pay PPL about $395 and they outsouce an inspection to a 3rd party.

Does PPL allow independent inspection?

It was this post that made me mention it - just an idea.

Where not to buy your RV

Yes, PPL allows outside inspections. You can make the sale contingent on a 3rd party inspection. The inspection will have to be on their lot.

Btw, I purchased our RV from PPL and had a great experience. We got a RV in great condition at a great price. However, what I found out was that the best deals will go almost immediately; even before they post the pictures. They update their website at around 9 pm. I would look every night and if I saw a new listing that I liked, I would call them first thing in the morning.

The RVs that have been on their lot for a while are still there for a reason. Either price or condition.

Bob Jones RV is 24 miles away from PPL in South Houston. Even on a great day that not 10 minutes away. Plan on 45 minutes to and hour and 1/2 with traffic.

In general I have found that if you are serious about a coach and know what you are looking for you really need to get your name and coach specifications directly to sales people and get on their prospect list for them to let you know what is about to go up for sale. This does apply somewhat to new coaches but really becomes important for used ones.
