Ford 22 Chassis

the salesman at one of the local rv dealers was stressing how good the Ford 22 was in the Bounder we were looking at. In reviewing the Thor Miramar it too has this chassis. What b the gurus opinions?

Welcome to iRV2.

I'm not up to speed on Ford chassis and their ratings , but if the 22, means ; 22,000 LBS , GVWR ; then many manufacturers are now building on 24,000, even 26,000 LBS. GVWR chassis .
This number also relates to the CCC; ( Cargo Carrying Capacity ) of the RV.
Many motor homes leave the factory nearly overloaded so you have to get all the numbers , no sense having big compartments to carry all your gear if the chassis won't carry the weight.
Some of the chassis have a very low , TTC, ( Trailer Tow Capacity ) that can make finding a toad ( your tow behind vehicle ) next to impossible.
You need all the numbers to make an informed purchase.

JMHO: Salesmen will say anything to get you to buy the vehicle they have , so proceed with caution.

Skip is just right. I was looking at the Winnebago Adventurer 35P, and it's offered on both the 22,000 and 24,000 pound chassis. The 22K had only 2,200 of cargo carrying capacity, so I chose the 24K. There are many on the 22K chassis with plenty of CCC, but it's really important to check to see if it meets your needs. Best of luck to you!

I was once trying to figure out turning radius on my F-53 Thor Challenger. A call to Thor confused me when (although they couldn't answer the question, they referred to my chassis as an F-22. A further call to Ford clarified that F-22 and F-53 were referring to the same chassis, the 22K F-53.

The Ford motorhome chassis is the F53, not "22", though the F53 is available in a 22,000 lb GVWR version.

I wonder if the sales guy meant W22, which isn't a Ford motorhome chassis at all (it's from the Workhorse Corporation).

In either case, the sales guy has amply demonstrated his ignorance.
