Ford 5 speed trans

Looking for a M/H on a Ford f53 chassis with the 5 speed. Can anyone tell me what year that trans was first used?
I was told the 5 speed gear shift lever says " TOW" and the 4 speeds say "OVERDRIVE". True? Thanks

2006, I believe. That's the 1st year for the higher HP engine.

The gear shift lever reads: TOW HAUL & has a push button for it on the end.

The gears are: Drive, 3, 2, 1. There's no OVERDRIVE button like you'd see on a car.

If the shift handle has an Overdrive Off button, its a 4 speed transmission, 2004 or older. A 2005 MH may have it, because the use old stock chassis when building them.

The 5 speed was introduced, with the 3 valve per cylinder engine, in 05 and came with the 5 speed and the Tow/Haul button.

Yes, everything Twinboat said..

Personally, I prefer the OD switch vs the tow/haul switch. This may be a good question for 5-Star tune folks.. Can they do this???

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

Officially the 5-speed came with the 2006 chassis model year, but that actually began 1/3/2005. Ford did not build a 2005 model year of the F53 motorhome chassis, so the 2004 was prduced up until the 2006 went into production on 1/3/2005.

Motorhome model years can differ from the chassis model year (often later), so it is not guaranteed that a 2005 or 2006 motorhome will have the 2006 F53 chassis. As others have already stated, you can tell easily by looking at the shifter (TOW for the 5-speed) and OD (Overdrive0 for the 4-speed. Or decode the VIN, which will identify the chassis year.
