Freightliner IFS chassis needing front end alignment
Generally spe
Generally speaking how often does the later model Freightliner chassis with IFS require alignment checking?
My last two MH, a '93 and a '97 both on the Chev P30 chassis, required having the front end alignment checked every 1-2 years and usually always needed some changes in some place or the other.
My current coach, a 36' DP with 73,000 miles, with a solid front axle has never had to have a front end alignment check and even the second set of tires are showing no unusual tire wear.
Getting a new coach with the IFS and wondering what kind of maintenance I'll be looking forward to in regard to tire care. The small local shops can doe alignment on vehicles with up to 19.5" tires but going into the 22.5" tires will require driving 90-120 miles to one of the larger cities in our area to find a large truck shop.

The last Freightliner Oasis dealer charged me $110 for an alignment.

Ours will be 3 years old in Sept, we have 31,000 miles on it and haven't had an alignment done. Don't need it.
My guess that your P30 chassis had far to light weight of components, which is why it needed aligned so often.

I was just at Freightliner in Gaffney with our 2 yr old coach.... I asked about alignment, tech looked at the tires and said it was not needed. The coach drives fine, tracks straight and no abnormal tire wear

If no problem, no need.

We did an alignment last year; found the front/IFS was fine but the rear axle was out of alignment. Was $300, but now the coach is much easier to steer on curves. No difference, IMO, on the straight stretches. /ken

We were at Gaffney Freightliner factory tour last Wednesday. The last thing done before a chassis goes out the door is the computer alignment, then it's tightened down and WELDED! So I'm not surprised that in most cases alignment is not needed.

Great to know that won't be a major concern.
