yep did it for long long time
until the places started not letting me have enough to make it worth my while.
this was in all three of my ford pickups.

most places around here have contracts with the new cooking oil supplier to let them pick up the old oil in exchange for a price break on non used cooking oil.
somebody is making a killin on it

Have a very good friend who is a fast food tycoon - owns several of a popular franchise in three or four states. He told me last week that used oil has become a significant profit center for his restaurants. He has had to invest in pretty sophisticated security to keep the oil from being stolen. Seems like every week there are news articles in central Fl about people arrested trying to steal used cooking oil.

A couple things have happened to change the french fry oil usage in diesel engines. First, as already stated, the restaurants are "selling" the used oil, second, restaurants were having problems with the general public wanting the oil and then making a mess when they were taking it, and finally in California and perhaps other states, it has become illegal to "transport" used oil in larger quanities unless you have a license to do so. So it came down to who makes a profit, the restaurant or the government.

Some states said it was illegal because no road tax was paid on fuel made from it .
