Fresh water fill problem

We have been in an RV for the past couple of months, hooked to city water. We are leaving in a few days and when I went to flip the valve to fill the fresh water tank and nothing happened.

We have a simple open/close valve and a single city water input. When closed the water will flow to the coach. When open it will fill the fresh water tank.

We get water into the coach but when I open the valve its not switching to the fresh water tank.

The obvious problem is that the valve broke. Any ideas how to verify that or debug other possible problems?

Thanks!

Keith

Hello Keith!
I have the same setup, like you said......has to be a problem with that 1/4 turn valve. Does it feel any different when you turn it?
Most likely you are going to have to dis-mount it and take the supply hose off it and see if the ball has turned and it is opened, and if not, replace it. I can't think of anything else that could prevent your from filling the tank.

Thanks! That was my guess too.

It does feel a bit different when I give it the 1/4 turn.

Tomorrow I'll take it apart and see if I can figure it out.

Hate it when things don't work the way they should!

These valves are pretty cheap stuff. Check to see if handle is stripped / rotating on shaft. Pair of vice grip pliers might do the trick temporarily.

Thanks. The valve turns so that's not the issue.

This morning I wanted to look closer and when I turn the valve I hear water flowing but not much. Usually, when I turn the valve I hear a gush of water and see movement in the tank.

Now I hear water flow if I listen carefully but it must be a trickle.

I can't image the value handle turns all the way but the ball inside not.... I suppose debris could be in the line. We use filters so not sure.

Is there a check valve in the line between the fill and the tank that would not be in the line to the coach?

Not that I know of,
The check valve on my system is where the city water goes into the inlet side of the whole house filter, so as if your pump is on and the parks pressure is lower than the operating pressure of your pump, it will not allow the tank to be pumped back into the water line, pumping the tank dry. Do you have a big filter in your wet bay?
