I never leave the campground water on connected to the motorhome. I use the water from the tank and then fill up if I need. I know a lot of people like to not run their water pumps and use the campground water pressure, but I choose not to do that.

Why did you not get a warranty pump replacement ?

Well ... I had no reason to assume the warranty would cover the problem (they might do it as a goodwill gesture):

SHURflo warrants .... Pump failure due to foreign debris is not covered under the terms of this limited warranty."

Although the pump is 1 year old, the fresh water tank is 17 years old. I have no idea what "quality" of water has been in the tank during those years. I just expect the check valve in the pump to clog with calcium/grit on a semi-regular basis. The inline filter ahead of the pump is not a fine mesh. I view the $15 add-on check valve as an item I can easily replace in the future. I think of it as an improvement.
