Freshwater tank filled up on it's own.
We've been parked for about two weeks at our summer gig in Michigan. I noticed the outside of the MH was wet underneath where the awing is. I looked underneath and the overflow for the freshwater tank was spewing water steadily. I went and shut off the water hose I had hooked up. Then I turned the tank valve that switches between "fill up your tank" and "outside water sourse" a few times. Then I turned the water back on and it stopped.
I m guessing it was leaking for quite some time because the ground was real wet and water was flowing down the driveway.
Is there some sort of bypass valve that may have stuck and filled up the tank?
I replaced the water pump a month ago. It never happened before that.
Anyway, thanks for any ideas.
Brad

Normally there are 3 ways fresh can enter the tank.
The first is the gravity fill port where you pour water into the tank.
Second is when the selector valve for tank fill vs system supply is in the wrong position or partially in the wrong position, or the valve is bad and leaking water into the tank.
The third way is through the water pump. There is a one way valve in the pump that keeps water from flowing backwards from the system through the pump and into the tank.
I suspect the water pump is allowing water to flow backwards and past the one way valve.

My 2007 Beaver has an "auto fill" feature that is turned on/off with a switch in the bathroon. When in the "on" position it will automatically fill the fresh water tank when the level drops to 80% full.
Had water under my coach a few weeks ago and found the valve that does the "filling" was stuck in the open position. I had to remove the valve to stop the water from entering the tank. Have a new valve on order and will install it soon.
Hope ths helps.

Water Pump Check Valve
Just had this same problem. In my case, the problem was a bad water pump (Surflo 4048) check valve. Replaced the pump, problem solved.
Note: I've since learned that leaving the water pump on while the city water is connected can cause the check valve in the pump to fail prematurely. Having pressure on both sides of the valve causes it to cycle excessively. Don't leave your water pump on when connected to city water. I was doing so to supplement low water pressures in some parks, and occasionally, just because I forgot to turn it off after connecting city water. Lesson learned.

Here is a basic diagram on how the water system works in most RV's. You can't get pressure on both sides of the pump check(One Way Valve) valve.

Had this happen to me twice and both times it was the check valves in the pump leaking. The first time I replaced the water pump. Then when it happened again I did some research and found I could order the valve housing instead of replacing the entire pump. There are 5 check valves on each side of the valve housing in my Remco Aquajet 55 pump so if any of the valves leak just a little they will pass water to the fresh water tank. The valve housing was like 30 bucks as opposed to almost 200 for a new pump. Easy enough to change as long you have a Torq head driver.

Thanks for the diagram. I ordered a $8 one way check valve I ll install instead of messing with the new pump.
I looked this morning and it's not overflowing yet.
Thanks,y'all for your help!

I may be having the same issue as my fresh water sensor is showing full. But the question I have is that if the check valve is bad and filling the fresh water tank won't it eventually cause the tank to overflow resulting in water on the ground?
I am not experiencing over flow that I can see and the only way to fill the fresh water tank is via the gravity fill port on the side of the coach. Perplexed. Maybe the sensor is just reading improperly.
Thoughts?

I'm surprised your nice looking coach doesn't have a selector valve near the water hose connection that allows you to fill the tank or supply water to the plumbing system. Looks like your coach has a 100 gallon water tank. That is a long time standing there pouring water into the gravity fill port.
If the tank is properly designed and built, then the answer is yes, it should eventually drain onto the ground, or come out the gravity fill port. On mine, the gauge will show full long before it tank is actually full.

My Southwind has a bypass switch where I hook up everything. But as for leak problems, I had something similar with my washer/dryer. I'm guessing my daughter was fiddling with the knob and put it on the "on" position(but it won't run unless I have the switches turned on) and upon hooking up one day I saw water spewing from the dryer vent. I then could see that the washer was full of water(then for some odd reason my father in law opened the door but was able to close it after a few gallons came pouring out). I turned off the water going to the washer then to get the water out, I simply put the washer on spin and it drained. Been fine ever since.

Keep us posted on the water problem. I'm curious to see if the check valve solves the issue for you.
