I have a 2003 Airstream Land Yatch (Gas) motorhome. My problem concerns 12 volts to the marker light. One marker light that does not work. I could not get power to the fixture so I pulled the connector out and found one wire was not crimped down enough to hold the wire in. I removed the wire from the connector and then put a volt meter to the black and white wires. I don't get a reading. My question is, are the two wires hot? or is one a negative and the other a positive. Most RV's just use one wire for hot and the ground is the RV. Appreciate any advice on 12 volt power to the fixture.

Steve,
Usually the black wire is the plus 12 and the white is the negative. What you will need is a long wire to connect to first the negative side of the battery and connect it to the white wire on the lite that doesn't work. If it lights, there is the problem, missing ground. If not, then switch to the positive post and touch it to the black wire. This should tell you which is bad. If the lite is in a cluster of three, remove one that is working and you can splice into either one or both and reconnect to the non-working one. I had to do this on mine.

From what I found on most motorhomes is the lights have both the plus & minus wires connected. They don't run to a frame ground. It more than likely is the splice for either one of the wires. Start there. Good luck and let us know.

I'm sorry, I can't resist saying this; make sure you have the switch turned on when you check for voltage with the meter.

LOL.

I have a fairly expensive Fluke meter. I went to change the battery one day, got distracted for a moment with the kids and then went back to work.

Why the $^# is this meter not working now!???

After a frustrating minute or so, I realized I never put the new battery in...
