Fuel Filter Failure

Went to the RV storage to work on our 03 Allegro Bay. After starting the engine I smelled gasoline. Checking outside I found fuel inboard of the driver side rear wheels. Further checking found that the fuel filter, fastened inside of the ds frame rail was spraying a 180 degree fan of gasoline. Had to shutdown and wait an hour for the pool of fuel to evaporate. (My next chore was to start the gen set which is located just outboard of the fuel spray.)

Replaced the filter and all is well. The failed filter is an AC Delco GF 481. It shows no sign of external damage or corrosion. It appears that the weld of the ss can to the outlet end plate failed. Probably an isolated fluke, but thought best to let the RV world know about it.

"ss"? I don't think I've ever seen a filter made with Stainless Steel or am I reading that wrong?

Donl,
Have there been freezing temperatures while in storage this winter? Just thinking this failure may be caused by water condensate and frost.

I don't think so Jim. We recently bought the coach from a dealer in Vancouver Washington. Prior owner was from Salem Oregon area and wintered in Yuma. Also the filter can showed no distortion.
