Fuel Filter Question

Hey all, I have a 2000 Newmar Dutch Star with a 8.3L Cummins engine. I have had a problem and with the help of some super people here, have determined it could be water in the fuel. I was going to change the filter, but have now found another problem. My Cummins book says I have a Fleetguard FS1022 filter, but I have found a Fleetguard FS1242B. In researching the filter I came across that some motorhomes have two filters. I can only find the one. Does anyone out there know if I have both filters or just the one FS1242B?

Before I go to far here, what chassis do you have?

This is a great question and a good place to find answers or where to find answers. The chassis manufacture will give you the correct filter #'s and configuration for your coach. Just provide the VIN.

Hi BigAWB,
Welcome to iRV2. The FS 1022 is readily available. Google it. Also, the FS indicates it is the Fuel Water Separator. There should be a plastic knob at the bottom of the filter to allow removal of water. While the 1022 does some filtering, it is not the fuel filter. The location can be anywhere Cummins, chassis manufacturer or Newmar decided to put it. If the fuel filter is not readily visible, you'll need to call and work your way through these three vendors to determine where the fuel filter is located. The filter will have a number starting with FF.

There is a Newmar Owners Forum on iRV2. Consider posting questions that may be specific to your Newmar coach in the Newmar Owners Forum. The forum is at http://www.irv2.com/forums/f103/. There is quite a bit of Newemar specific skill and knowledge on this forum.

The FS1022(NAPA# 3422 W/Sensor) on my ISC is the filter mounted on the engine with the plug in on the bottom of it for the "water in fuel" light The FS 1242B is just a newer upgraded filter. The other filter that is on mine is inside the rear battery door on the curb side and takes a FS 1212 (NAPA# 3405) (Drain in the bottom)
