Fuel Filters
Fuel Filters !
Changed all 3 of my Fuel Filters before I put the Old Gal to bed for the winter ( November) Woke up and Traveled to Florida on Feb 1 and since have traveled 7500 miles. On my way back from Atlanta a couple of weeks ago I noticed the Old Cummins was a little slugish.
This week I did a full service including the 3 Fuel Filters and Wow ! It came alive again.
Is the Fuel we buy really that dirty ? Please don't start on Algae in my tank as I know its clean.

One bad batch of fuel is all it takes to clog any filter system.
Remember to drain any water out of filter system after fill up.
You should have a water drain on primary fuel diesel filter.

Hey Ed !
I Always buy my fuel at Flying J's-- guess that doesn't guarantee clean fuel. However - No I don't ever see anything in my clear bowl on the water separator which is the 1st of the 3, I have. All I can say is this Cummins came alive as soon as I left the Drive,

One of the reasons I'm picky about where I buy my fuel. I stick to truck stops because of the volume they sell. Not sure where you bought fuel but this is my first thought.

When mine is about to be parked for an extended stay its full of fuel with biocide added prior to filling. I don't need a crop of algae.

Every trip back in town I fill it up at Flying J-- 8 miles from home.

If the particles are small enough, they can pass though to the last filter , probably a 2 micron compared to the primary/water separator 30 micron .
Did you open the filters to check for the restriction.

No I haven't opened the filters, but I will if these symptoms happen again. I'm on another trip this week and just enjoying the new found power.

It's all a crap shoot. Just because a truck stop pumps a lot of diesel doesn't mean what you'll get is clean. If they just recieved a delivery, dumping a truckload of fuel into the tanks will stir up a lot of junk because it doesn't have time to settle. But it's still a good rule of thumb.

It doesn't have to be a bad load of fuel. If you happened to fill up at a Flting J that's pumping B20, it may have acted as a detergent and dislodged crud from the tank. This is known to happen.
The Pilot Flying J website shows the biofuel content expected at their various stations.

I've never seen Bio at the Truck Islands at Flying J and for sure never pumped it in my Tank.

They don't always have a sticker on the pump, but most Flying J locations are pumping between 5-20 % bio. Look at the locations on their web site.

Steve- I thought they had to sticker the pumps ? Bio and the percentage ?
