Fueling a Gas RV
This is probably a simple question, but this is also an area I don't want to mess up. We just purchased our first RV, which is a gasoline version. I know I can't have flames when fueling. Is the proper procedure to simply shut off the refrigerator/water heater/other LP powered items when purchasing fuel or should I also shut off the valve on the LP tank.
This is one thing I don't want to learn the hard way.

I just turn the fridge off. I don't run the water heater when driving.

I do not shut off the tank. But I do try to remember to shut off anything that may spark or flame, including furnace, hot water, fridge, generator, and engine.

We've tried to remember to turn the fridge off but seldom remember till it's too late. Our fridge is on the opposite side from the gas tank but I don't know if that makes it any safer.

My fridge air intake and gas tank are very close, so it would be imperative to shut off the fridge during fueling.

My co-pilot (DW) has responsibility to turn off refer and then restart after we pull away from pumps. She also checks Water Heater and Pump is off when we break camp.

I only shut off the Propane when filling the propane but don't turn off anything while filling the gas tank.

Kind of depends if someone is filling next to you at the next island.

I just turn off the engine and refuel.
When refueling at Costco in CA I felt lucky to not get shot putting my RV in the gas line. If I took the time to do a systems check and shut down I could have been lynched. We did see a big fight while in line. I was waiting for someone to start yelling and honking waiting for us to fill our tank.
I'm sure the DOT has looked at this issue before approving for use.
