my furnace blower pulled the house batteries down pretty low, enough so I couldn't crank the generator, even though the chassis engine had been running altenator charging. Maybe a function of cold batteries and not enough capacity, as they are only 2 marine type 12 volt. was using furnace, a couple interior lights, headlights, and dash blower all at the same time. guess my altenator couldn't keep up

Wow, that's pretty strange redfire for driving down the road. The furnace blower shouldn't take much more then the chassis heater and a few 12v lights shouldn't make any difference. RV alternators put out a ton of amps at 14.3-14.5v and should handle all that with no problem.

I think your house batteries are NOT charging while you are driving. did your starting battery stay charged? if it did I would say alternater is ok.

Actually my alternator on my 2005 holiday rambler does not charge the house batteries. The generator and large solar panel will.

This flies in the face of all MHs since the beginning of time. You have a bad solenoid which connects the alternator to the coach batteries. Or some alternate system is not functioning.

It should. Safe bet theres a system in place to do that. You'll need to figure out why it's not working. Common problem might be a relay that's not working for whatever reason.

Like everyone already said, likely II have a problem. I have a 2003 version of the same coach and house gets charged with alternator.

Your 160 amp alternator should charge everything and them some. I was driving on Sunday, 38 degrees and GENNY on, heat pumps kept the MH nice.

Furnace while driving

My wife made a nice thick heavy curtain that we install right behind the driver and passenger seats. It keeps the heat from the front heater in front. Very nice and warm. we start the furnace when we stop.

My alternator doesn't charge the house batteries either unless I hold the boost switch down. This seems to be my fix to going through to many solenoids. To the ones who believe their alternator does not charge their house batteries by design , there is plenty of info on here. Do a quick search and you will have tons to read.

Are you saying you disabled your system NOT to charge the house batteries?

When the coach is first started the alternator charges the chassis battery while the house batteries remain isolated for a minute or two and then a circuit sends a signal to the solenoid to connect all the batteries. That circuit kept sticking and this was causing the solenoid to fail. I caught it the last time, unplugged the circuit, plugged it back in and it hasn't worked since but the solenoid is still good. So now when I'm driving down the road and would like to run the furnace, I hold the boost switch down and hold it open with a bottle cap to keep the house batteries connected. If I'm not running anything I don't bother with the switch, so the batteries stay isolated while driving. The system ( at least on this coach ) is very lame so this was my fix. ( replaced the solenoid and circuit board 3 times)

Actually I find that the dash heat is all we usually need
