Furnace Output Question

'04 Monaco Camelot DP 40PDQ. First winter we've had the unit. When I start the furnace heat comes from the registers in the front part of the coach, which is normal, but the two in the bedroom floor have no output. Manual says all furnace heat is controlled by Zone 1 (Front) on the two Zone thermostat. So Zone 2 (back/bedroom) has no control. The heat from the front is probably enough heat, but wonder why the back vents aren't blowing? Some relay or is it a physical issue??

I'd think a 40ft monaco would have 2 furnaces. Mine does. In fact my former 10 year old fleetwood gasser did.

when you go to zone 2 and step thru the modes, is furnace one of them? If you select it and turn up the temp, does it click on and make heat?

Hi ga20803,
Consider posting this question in the Monaco Owner's forum of iRV2. On the iRV2 main page scroll down to the Owner's Corner. There you will find a Monaco Owner's forum. The answer may be unique to your brand and model of coach. Nobody knows your coach like someone who owns one just like yours.

Verify the number of actual furnaces you have. This can be done by the number of furnace vents on the exterior walls of the coach. If you have more than one furnace then the problem could be the dip switch settings and/or the T'stat needs to be reset. If you only have one furnace, you may have some duct work that is blocked or has come loose from the furnace plenum. Let us know so we can help you out.

If it has a two zone thermostat, it has TWO zones of which zone 2 is always the rear and controls all aspects of the rear climate control. Am looking at my '04 Monaco owners manual and find no mention of zone 1 controlling the rear heat???

I have a 2004 Monaco, it has 2 zones #1 for front # 2 for rear, vents all work when both furnaces are running. It is my understanding all Monaco RV of this year are standard with 2 furnaces. Hope you get the problem solved.

Page 185 under heading Using the Furnace in my manual says 'slide the hallway thermostat on/ select ZONE 1/Select Furnace Mode/Select desired temp' and says no more. Crazy huh? No mention of Zone 2 in the Furnace section. Talks about Z1 and Z2 in the AC & heat pump sections, but implies ZONE 1 is the only control for the furnace. I am only aware of one furnace in the coach. It does mention not to have Z2 and Z1 on different modes.

Mea culpas Hal....part of what I said was correct and part not. The manual makes no mention of ZONE 2 Furnance use, but I do have two furnances. So I will approach this issue from a more informaed angle. Thanks

What type heating system do you have?
LP gas?
Aqua Hot?
You have floor vents in floor of bedroom are vents open?
If you have a LP gas furnace zone #1 would be the zone and in bedroom you would have a heat sensor mounted on wall.

if you have LP heat........go outside and look for 2 furnace vents in the exterior walls.

if you find only 1 vent...you have only 1 furnace

I have 2 ACs w/ heat strips but only 1 furnace. My T stat has the 2 zones but only zone 1 controls the furnace.

My owners manual shows the old type analog T stats...and the manual shows my vehicle to have 3 T stats...but it has just the 1 digital type

What did you find? Also we've noted that the vents ALL seem to be connected. With the #1 (front) furnace on, a very small amount of air comes from the rear (#2) vents and vice versa. Hope you have heat pumps - NICE!

I remember the experienced salesman we had, that said our 36' DP coach only had 1 furnace. He said the rear thermostat was only for air conditioning. I believed him and wondered why the rear didn't get any heat.
Later, I noticed that we have 2 furnaces and the rear one was not on. That solved the situation. The salesman was incorrect.

Thanks for all the input. I do have 2 furnaces, so it highly likely Z2 controls the rear vesnts/heat. Matbe I just didn't set it right the 1st time I tested the furnace. I have not had time to fool around with it any more. We are going out next week to Branson, so it may be cool enough at night that I can try and figure out what controls what, etc.

Ultimately found to be a wiring issue. Resolved and have heat both front and rear - good to go.
