Who knows what goes on in a 10 year old fuel tank? Some kind of gunk or alien growth on the moving parts ? RVs typically have pretty cheap gauge systems. Mine waves around somewhat also. I'm not sure if there's a fix worth pursuing.
QUESTIONS: do you know the quantity of your tank? Have you calculated your mpg ?
This is not a hassle, this is just real life in large vehicles. Almost everyone I know who has a motorhome has a fluky gauge. An accurate and reliable fuel quantity indicating system will cost at least a couple of thousand dollars, not work well for very long, and achieve very little. Everyone I talk to has figured their mpg, knows how far they can go, and keeps track of the odometer, because you*don't*trust*fuel*gauges.
I have a 150 gal tank, get 7.4 mpg. I can go over a thousand miles to dry tank. At about 750 my low fuel light will come on, and at about the same point I lose my generator fuel feed. I know all these things because I've watched them happen, (well, not the dry tank part ;-) ) but even if my gauge were perfect I'd still want to know these things, because you *don't*trust*fuel*gauges. Because I know these things, I am usually at the fuel pump somewhere between 500 and 600 miles.
You've now had the opportunity to get a head start on this vital knowledge! Your Monaco has a 100 gal tank, so around 500 is a good place to start thinking about a fuel stop.
