Gas station accessibility for gas MHs
Does anyone know a trick to finding motorhome friendly gas stations for gas MH towing? We are finding this especially challenging. It seems as if the older gas stations a set up to get in and out but the newer design is perpendicular to the store front with no room to pull through.
We have wasted considerable time getting off highways only to find that we can't get in and out the gas pumps. Even the truck stops that have access for DPs don't seem to have pumps that work for gas MHs.
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

I use, almost exclusively, Flying J/Pilot that have RV lanes. These lanes are separate from the other pumps and set back to allow room to pull through. Not all are perfect, but I have found them easier to navigate.

11 plus years and I don't have trouble finding stations I can navigate, 40' plus the toad. Costco is my 1st choice, Flying J, Love's, Pilot, Sam's Club, Fred Meyers, all work for me. Lately I have also been using stations at Indian Casinos. I just filled up at one this morning.

One of the main reasons I drive a diesel Class A and a diesel Class C is so I can use the spacious truck lanes...
Here is a post from years back that deals with this exact situation:

I'm a weekend camper so getting fuel close to home isn't a problem. When we head out on longer trips that will require fuel I'll plan my stops usually 200 to 300 miles between. Planning includes doing both a satellite and street view of possible stations. I also seek out Fly J or Pilot stations with RV lanes. Not too much work but pre-planning makes the stops easier and less stressful. I'll also us Gas Buddy to find lower cost stops then check for easy access.

Flying J, Google Maps satellite view, lots of planning. Just did 7,000 miles and before I left I could tell where and the alternate I would be fueling up.

Is there a way to know which Flying J/Pilot stations have the gas RV lanes? The only one we found was the one in Brunswick, GA, and it was great. Wish all truck stops had something like that.

Gas station accessibility for gas MHs
Made it to Nebraska from east Tennessee on the way to Yellowstone. We used Flying J all the way. Plus check out Good Sam gas discounts for RVers.

Viewing station/street view on Google Earth and planning fuel stops in advance is great advice. I do both also. Saves a lot of headaches, frustration and time on travel days.

You can use the Pilot/Flying J app, it's called My Pilot. It will tell you all the amenities at each one of their stations along with a map to show you where they are.

I try to fuel in bigger towns with a variety of different stations, so far no issues in getting the MH fueled. I can drive past the station and tell if I can get in and out without a problem. Went to the UP in Mich this past June and had to find some backwoods fuel stations, however most were open and had no issues except for the people just parking anywhere except the designated parking spots. Had one lady park across the two lanes for fuel to block them off while she stood in line to buy cigarettes for 30 minutes!!
People tend to be more of a problem than the fuel station itself....

My Rand McNally Tab 8 has a great database of fuel stops.
I choose stops with 3 or 4 gas stations whenever I can. I have a 33 foot gasser with a small SUV toad.
Only place I has an issue was at a Loves stop.
My biggest problem has been car travelers who leave there car at the pump and got in for a meal. Or the occasional rude car that needs to cut you off or pull in front of me while I'm slowly approaching the pumps.

If you plan your route you could figure where you'd be stopping for gas and then Google Map that area to see the layouts of the various gas stations in the area. One example is in the Tucson area. When I'm gassing up a Class A, I can go to the Chevron at the Wilmot exit because it is has an outside lane that is perfect for motorhomes.

DW and I have a 35' A, gasser with filler to the left of the rear license plate... easy to see the pumps in the rear camera to position for fill-up, but 30 feet of camper sticking out... blocking entrances to parking spots or entrance to the station... the end row/pump and double pump stations help some, I just have to swallow deep, keep my head down, stay friendly, get fueled and get going...
