Gas to diesel swap?

Not that I am going to do it, but was wondering if it has been done.

Has anyone swapped out their front gas engine (454, 460,.. Whatever), for a Diesel engine?

I'm sure they have I think there is a post that a guy bought a burned up DP and put a gas engine in the rear. I think a diesel engine in the front woevens little noisy even the new Fred motorhome owners how posted noisy.

I don't think the suspension would handle the extra weight of a diesel engine.

I would think it would depend on the chassis used. There are kits to install the 5.9l Cummins in Ford F350's, 450's, and 550's. GM products as well........don't think the weight difference would be insurmountable...... JB

Ford put their ford diesel in the 550 chassis and the f53 is the same chassis. It should be possible.

I bet a 5.9 cummings or a dt466 international, or the cat 3126, all diesels found in a school bus would work. im sure you could pick up a bus cheap, and use the components mounts etc. noise would be a factor. Good question.

A 5.9L is NO where as big as a DT466 or Cat 3126.

You are NOT going to get Either on of those in a F series pickup.

I do agree on swaps it is best to have the Engine donor vehicle.

My school district is going to sell a 96 Ford B700 School bus this summer
it has a Mechanical injected 210HP 5.9L/Allision 5-SP trans 148K miles?
This one has the P7100 inline injection pump (AKA "Million mile pump")
It might go as high as $2500 (whats left will scrap for $1500)
Runs and drives good.

I am just finishing cutting up a 1996 american eagle fleetwood rv pusher motor home. It had less than 50k miles when it caught fire. All the parts I'm selling are in very good condition.

I have an 87 Southwind with a 454, I asked my mechanic about putting in a Cummings diesel with an Allison tranny as I am sure I will get no more than 200,000 miles out of it and he said that would be no problem. Just increase the springs to handle the extra weight, add more fuel filters, and extra soundproofing for the dog house. So unless the coach is falling apart by the time I reach 200,000 miles that is the route I plan on going.
