Generac issue

I found a problem with my generac QP 75d generator in my motorhome... it fires up and runs for a few minutes then shuts down. When I try to restart it it wonít stay running unless I hold down the preheat button and it runs fine as long as I hold the button down... we just got this 39 ft motorhome and I just put a starter into it, so this is the first time I have tried to use it... oil is full, it needs a little water, it does supply power when it runs...

Any Ideas for me to check out? Iím quite the rookie when it comes to motorhome and onboard generators...

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Usually the carburetor gums up from sitting too long. Pull the carburetor and clean it. Blow air through the passages and main jet.

You are keeping the glow plugs warm. Most likely starving for fuel.

It’s diesel not gas, so no carb...

It ran for bout 5 minutes the first time then shut down, so I’m not sure the glow plugs are the problem... I’m wondering if, it’s to low on water... I read somewhere that the preheat button bypasses the sensors while your pushing it allowing it to run,

Have you changed the fuel filter? Sounds like it's starving for fuel.

It has happened to me twice. Both times was a loose battery cable. Worth a check.
