General Guardian RV 5500 Circuit Breakers Tripping - Driving and Not Running

Last couple of times we have stopped for lunch, I fired up the generator but no output. A quick shutdown and breaker reset resolves the issue.

Do these breakers eventually fail such that they will trip just due to road vibration? Roads havenít exactly been smooth either, but I have never had this use before.

Once I reset the breakers, the generator runs fine and powers both A/Cís fine. Itís also been very hot!

Do you hear the transfer switch switch over after the delay ?

Are the 2 ACs on when you start the generator ?

Have you tried staggering the ACs startup ?

You could check the breaker before starting and then start it from outside, watching the breaker.

Generator is started with no power draw until I see voltage on my inside meter to prevent any current draw across the transfer switch when the transfer occurs. Once I see this, I turn on the A/Cís or any other electrical items. If I reset the generator breakers and restart the generator, I get the normal transfer switch delay and then the voltage is up.

Seems like the breakers are simply tripping due to road vibrations while driving.

I like the idea of resetting first and if I remember might reset the breakers prior to cold start next time to see if it comes up normally.

The breakers can be light to the touch.

Anything like a wire or fuel line hanging loose near them ?

No, they are pretty well protected from anything.

They donít actually move when they trip, I turn them off then on to reset.

Donít think itís the transfer switch because all is well if I cycle the breaker with the generator off.

Have you tried a restart without touching the breakers ?

Another thought, do you have a surge guard on the generator output, or after the ATS ?

Could have low voltage on the first startup.

Have not tried that, will do that tomorrow. I do have the Progressive EMS, but it is only on the pedestal side of the power prior to the transfer switch.

Update:

Last night, I toggled the breakers several times each (on, off, on, off,etc.). Today, no issues. Seems every time I started the generator it provided power correctly.

Now wondering if the contacts inside the breakers might be dirty or something.
