Generator and Ethanol

Has anyone found issues in older gas generators using the current ethanol gas. Ours is a 1999 Onan 5500. I'm wondering if I should have any concerns or look for any telltale signs? Chuck

My 2003 sightseer with the 5500 runs fine on either. But I try not to let it sit for awhile with out running it.

Small engine mechanics have told me that the older engines have carburetors, fuel lines, etc that are made with some plastics that degrade in the presence of alcohol.

There are stations that sell non-ethanol gas in many areas of the country.....I will pay more to buy the pure gas when I can find stations that sell it.

Generac

My Guardian (Generac) Generator has 900 hours on it no problems with gas. My previous motor home a 97 model Onan had 600 hours and no problems on gas.

Your trouble will likely come from the fuel line rather than the generator itself.

That I do know. It is one of the big problems with ethanol and one of the reasons I asked. Chuck
