Generator fuel consumption

We recently got a Class A diesel pusher with an Onan Quiet 7.5 generator.

Does anyone have any idea how much diesel fuel is consumed by this generator per hour under a light load such as recharging house batteries and running a few lights?

Any idea how much is consumed per hour under a heavier load (running both AC units)?

I have been told by others on this forum that light loads as you describe will consume about 1/2 gal. per hour and heavy loads (2 ac's running and other things) may consume about 1 gal. per hour. I have not tested it and I am not sure how I could with any degree of accuracy, and I really don't care so long as the generator shuts down, as it is supposed to do, at 1/4 tank of diesel fuel so I can get to the next fuel stop.

Light load, about .25 gph. If running ac hard then average .5gph.

The above posts are correct. Somewhere between 0.5 gph under normal loads.

Don't you have the manual for the generator? There are tables that will tell you what the fuel burn will be.

I have a 8.0 generator. According to my manual, the generator burns 1 gallon per hour at full load. Because you almost never run at full load, the previous posts of .25 - .50 gallons per hour are pretty accurate.

I didn't realize that the generator manual would list gph... definitely a good starting point. And it's always good to hear from other's experiences as well, really. Many thanks to those who posted their experiences.

I took this from my 7.5 KV Onan manual.

Diesel No Load Half Load Full Load
gal/h l/h gal/h l/h gal/h l/h
7.5HDKAJ 0.13 (0.49) 0.49 (1.85) 0.96 (3.63)
