Generator help...

I am a newbie to the RV world, We bought a 1999 Rexhall Aerbus in Aug. last summer.

I was trying the generator the other day and noticed that NOT all of AC powered appliances worked.

Does an RV have separate circuits that would enable some AC power devices to work and not others? Converters?

My TV and electric heater were working but not the microwave or refrigerator.

I ran the generator while plugged into shore power, will that damage any system in the RV?

Most generators have 2 circuit breakers on the generator itself, they both need to be on. Running the generator while plugged in shouldn't hurt. Your ATS( automatic transfer switch) should disconnect the land line before connecting the generator. Is your coach 50 Amp or 30 Amp,(4 wire plug, or 3 wire) if 3 wire 2nd breaker is for 2nd air conditioner, if 4 wire, 2nd breaker is for about half your electric. Good luck, and enjoy RVing.

Thanks so much for your help. There was a circuit breaker turned OFF, I flipped it back on, and ALL appliances now work. Thanks again, for your immediate reply, very much appreciated.

One thing about those breakers.. They tend to shut themselves off for many reasons,, Overload of course, but I've had mine trip due to vibration epically when shutting down the Genny.
