Are diesel generators located upfront under the hood and on the side? If also on the side is that the preferable location for less engine noise while operating underway? Do some come with sound shields?

Good to know. Don't see how that works but I take your word for it
The onan quiet diesel line of Cummins powered gennies are some of the quietist on the market. Mine has 2200 hours and can just hear it without ac running. Some DP mh have a well insulated floor and firewall silencing a lot of the noise. Some front gennies are mounted on slides for ease of service. (wish mine was like that!!). I have seen a few front diesel (Fred's) with the genny mounted on the side and some with a rear mounted genny.

Thanks that helps clear it up. I had a large boat once that had a diesel Onan genny in the engine room. That thing would rattle your brain.
