Generator muffler

OK - here I go again! Got the steps up (had to have someone disconnect the motor and NOW they're up with a bungie cord around them till we can find a new motor.) NOW, it seems, the generator muffler is loose from the tailpipe. Can I take it to just any old muffler shop to have it fixed or do I have to find a RV dealer that does that?? Need to have the oil and spark plug changed too. It's never been done since we've had it although we haven't used it very much.

Actually having Not used it much is more of a problem than you might want to experience. Generators are to be run with a load every month to "exercise" all of the components.
Have a generator dealer service it for you as for the tail pipe/muffler any shop can handle that

The reason to "exercise" the generator is more to make sure that the electrical windings in the generator portion of the "generator" are dried out periodically. What we typically call a generator these days consists of the engine (gas, diesel, or propane fueled) and the electrical portion which is the actual electricity generator. Over time, due to condensation and other environmental conditions water will accumulate in the windings, the coils upon coils of small (generally copper) wire that make up the stator portion of the generator. Without periodic running (at a load) the moisture can damage the windings, and hence the generator, causing problems up to and including complete failure of the electricity generating portion of the the "generator".

Yup, a independent muffler shop. They can fab up most anything needed.

OK - had the muffler installed and got the generator running BUT NOTHING will run on it. We turned the A/C on - nothing - the stove nothing. So, we turned the generator off and plugged it in and THEN all the appliances and the A/C ran just fine. The generator is an Onan and I"m not sure what to do next. Seems to me these RV's are worth nothing but headaches! ALWAYS something that has to get fixed!!

Check the breakers on the generator under the lid. And if you have an automatic transfer switch make sure it is working. But I bet the shop that did the work put the breakers to off.

x2 circuit breakers.. If it is the ATS, I replaced mine in 40 minutes and saved $450 over having the RV tech do it(bought on EBAY). Best of luck
