The Onan generator on our new motor home is dripping oil. When we got home Sunday from a trip, it was 96 degrees outside and it dripped a pretty good spot of oil on the driveway while we were unloading. I checked the oil level and it was about half way down the dip stick. I checked the drain plug and the filter and both were tight. Could it be that the oil weight is too thin or would that even matter? I called the dealer and they said to bring it by but we are leaving on a trip pretty soon and I hate to take it to them and leave it. Any ideas?

Can you see where the oil is coming from?

Howdy,

In responce to your question it could be a couple of different things in my option one it could be the oil pan and the gaset is bad or two it could that the oil you put in could be thin or three remember the hotter it gets outside the thinner oil becomes and the colder it gets the thicker it gets I would check under neath real good and trace it all to see if you can see where it's coming from look to see if you see oil on the outside and where

All I can tell is that it is dripping out from towards the rear. Guess all I can do is take it in

The best shop would be an Onan S/C, I presume it's still under warranty.

I wondered whether I should take it to an Onan s/c but the dealer said to bring it to them. And, yes it is still in warranty.

On my previous coach my Onan Gen leaked and it was the pan gasket. It was repaired under warranty and after the repair it continued to drip oil so I took it back to my dealer. The dealer took a good look at the repair done by Onan and found out that when Onan made the repair they did not clean off the leaked oil, on the skid plate, at the bottom of the generator. When the generator got hot it thinned the oil on the skid plate and it dripped. Our dealer pulled the generator and cleaned everything and it solved the problem.
