put stabil in the gas tank and then run the rv engine and the genny for 15 minutes to make sure it gets to all the places it needs to get.

but, you really should run the rv and genny every 4-6 weeks for a half-hour to an hour for the rv and 2 hours at 1/2 load for the genny.

also, if not already done, an oil change for both is recommended before storage.

If you fill your gas tank and added Sta-bil to tank just run Gen so it gets the fresh gas with Sta-bil in Gen.

A LOT of people here will argue against this recommendation.

Waste of time and not good for em at all. Stabilize the fuel, take the batteries away to someplace warm, and just forget the coach exists until spring.

If it's not good for the generator to run it for an hour every month or so (under partial load), why does Onan recommend it in their owners manual?

Really?, it's not good to run the Benny once a month under load? Every bit of research I've ever read, says differently. I know it's not good just to start the MH engine and just idle it, but I thought it was good for the genny.

Our motor home gets winterized in October and parked in its garage until next April. Generator does not get exercised during this time frame as the snow gets deep up here. MH home is plugged in to 30amp. This allows the house batteries to be be cycled by the Charge Wizard. The starting battery is hooked up to a trickle charger. The pink stuff protects the plumbing. Been doing this for years.

the rv engine should be run, every 4-6 weeks, enough to get it up to operating temperature, and then long enough to boil out any water that has condensed inside the engine. that should take between 1/2 to one hour, on the road. that will also move the wheel bearing (and other) grease around and similarly drive out the water. same is true of the genny, and you will also dry out the windings if you run it with a load.

however, if you are not in a position to drive the rv periodically through the winter, just change the oil prior to storage. do not run the engine if you can not run it long enough to boil out the water, as you will just circulate any acids throughout the engine. a replacement oil pan is cheaper than bearings, rings, etc.

you should still try to run the genny under load to keep the windings dry.

of course, if the rv is in heated, indoor storage: nevermind!
