I am curious as to why an rv generator cost 10 times what a protable one costs. The only difference i see is a fuel pump, insulated box and a better muffler

RV generators run at 1/2 the RPM of portable generator, and are usually quieter and last longer.
Use a portable.... every neighbor will "enjoy" it.

A friend had his generator pull cord cut off while he was gone from his campsite...(apparently one of his neighbors didn't "enjoy" his generator as much as he did).

A quiet Honda 6500 watt generator costs $4000.00

I hope thats not 1/10 th the price of a built in one.

I answered this elsewhere.. Take a look at the construction,, Onan (the ones I'm most familiar with) are very very heavily built, They are designed for long life and with reasonable care can easily outlast your portables many times over.

I have worked on Onan's that were as old as I was at the time (20 something) and they still ran.. They are worth overhauling when the engine goes. Everything in them is "Industrial" quality, where as the portables are what I would call "Hobby Class". even if they are contractor models.

I'm not sure what you're basing your comparison on. I have an Onan 7.5KW diesel generator in my coach. I don't recall ever seeing one of these in an easily portable model. It's quiet, efficient and integrated into the coach. The Kubota 3 cylinder 719cc engine is reliable and the electronics provide a clean sine wave that's independent of engine RPM (it's basically an inverter).

You get what you pay for.

Another thing (I posted this in the other thread on this topic, not sure where that is) Quality of power.

Some of those portables are downright scary when it comes to the power they put out,, Spikes approachign a kilovolt can wreck havoc with your electronics over time (SHorten their life)

Onan Emerald is down right clean when it comes to power.
