Getting used to a pusher for close quarters maneuvering

Hi,

I took delivery of my 2008 Itasca Latitude this week. As its on a UFO chassis the front wheel are behind me. My f53's front wheels were in front of the drivers.

I really love the turning circle but still getting used to getting it in to our storage bay.

I need to make a very tight right angle to get my coach in to its storage bay. I am still figuring this out. My bay is only about 12 foot wide. The distance between the bays opposite is about 60ft.

Some of these diesels have super tight turning radius'. Seems like you've got plenty of room to maneuver. Try backing it in. Get out there and practice until it's second nature.

If that was my spot, I'd back it in. Get a spotter and go very slowly.

One thing that I've heard helps is to maneuver in a large empty lot while having some one video it for you so you can later watch and see tail swing, how the toad actually tracks, etc...

Never tried it myself, wasn't that smart but others have said it was a huge help to them.

I park beside my house. I have exactly two inchs clearance on both sides if I want to open my cargo doors.

I have to back in at an angle and then straighten out so my solution was to park the coach exactly where I wanted it to be and then I painted white lines on the concrete.

Pretty simple now using my mirrors to back in using the white lines for reference.

As others suggested back it in and get it where you want it and then paint some white lines you can see in your mirrors.

You are sitting over your wheels, or darn close to it. So, when your butt gets to where you want the front of the motor home to go, start your turn. Just don't forget that the circle has to be clear for the maneuver, and don't forget tail swing. Many a gas pump has been bumped with the tail of a coach. As have other objects. No such things as jumping trees, the all stand pretty still and solid in the ground.

Thanks all,

Thanks all,

That makes sense on turning when my butt reaches where I want to turn.

I wish I could paint some lines but the lot is a dirt one. After the winter it has some bad rutting also which does not help.

I can normaly get in properly after 2 attempts. I am very weary as damaged the mirror on my Damon once pulling out.

Big issue is the lot was deaigned for 30 footers (must be at least 30 years old) and I am nearly 38 foot.

Once I am squared up reversing out is easier thany f53.

Will practice as much as I can.

:-)

You need to learn how to do a 2 (even 3 on occasion) point turn and practicing when storing is a good place to start. You go past where you would normally start your turn, in this case pointed at the next stall at a 45+ degree angle Turn the wheel all the way in opposite direction and backup. With a little practice you should be able to pull straight ahead into your stall. In a 2 point turn you would not backup as much and then have to turn the wheel hard in the direction of the turn to complete it. This comes in handy for those CG sites many say you cannot back into.

Get some orange cones for reference points. They can come in handy for other parking situations.

Thanks both,

I do have some small cones in the coach I can use.

I don't think I am doing too badly, just need to figure put my pivot point.

:-)

Here's a good video on how to back into a campsite. It really works.
I use it as well backing into my driveway.

IMO the easiest way to get it in is to back it in.

If you want to have the front in first you may wish to drive by and back up swinging the front towards the parking spot and then drive it straight in. This will take a bit of practice to determine how far to drive by before you back up to line up.
