It's smoke and mirror .... My friend bought one but returned it. All they are is a resistor that tricks the air temp sensor and computer to lean out fuel mix.

performance chip

dleonard,

First, you do not indicate the type or rig, brand, model, gas, or diesel. Details are important when posing questions.

Second, DO NOT DO IT! An added performance chip cost me, and others an engine. I recently had two pistons, #5 & #7, burn out due to a high-performance chip being installed and run for 10K miles.

The Service Manager at the repair facility said he has seen this type of failure before and my online research indicates the same. A number of RVr's have posted to these forums that they, too, experienced the same, exact type of engine failure as I did. All from so-called, high performance enhancing program chips.

$12K later, I have a factory rebuilt, 18 month warrantied GM 8.1 ltr engine. The only engine performance enhancements I would do (previous owner had chip installed and it was NOT disclosed) would be a Banks exhaust system, and/or heavy duty plug wires and additional cooling features.

Just my 2c.

Happy Trails!

Darryl

Have had two Banks systems, one on a 460 Ford and now on our ISC Cummins. Both have been great with no problems other than the TransCommand on the Ford went bad after two years. The warranty on the first units was one year but Banks still replaced it free of charge.
The ISC has had the Banks kit on it for over 10,000 miles and had been absolutely trouble free. But I hope the OttoMind (black box) doesn't go out as they don't have any and no one is making them the last I heard so no way to replace it. I think it's "potted" in epoxy so it can't be repaired either.

Thanks one and all for the info. I am so glad to get the low down before sticking one of these on my Ford powered Georgetown.
