I Would like to thank the state of Georgia for eliminating the "Birthday Tax" that has been so unpleasant for so long for Georgia motorhome owners. I just paid my tag fee that will keep me on the road through April 2015 and the grand total was $22.00. I am not gloating as I know others still shoulder this expense each year rather I am celebrating a solid change to the laws governing motor vehicles in my state. Yea!!!

Never heard of the 'Birthday Tax'. When I lived there, the tags had an Ad Valorem tax that was based on the value of the vehicle. Motorhomes are exempt? Autos?

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts just raised all motor vehicle fees today. Motorhomes, which require annual registration renewals, will go from $50. to $60. Annual inspections will go from $29. to $35. This is on top of annual Excise Taxes which for my 8 year old gas class A, is in the $350. range. Oh, and we have some of the poorest roads in the country.

I forgot to mention that the sales tax upon purchase is 6.25%.

Yes, it's an ad valorem tax renamed to a birthday tax because it always renews on your birthday each year. It was for autos and motor homes and way tooooooo expensive. Much happier now that you pay tax when you purchase the motor home and then simply renew each year for a few dollars.

Very cool...oh the money I could have saved. The tag on the DW's car was over $175 and my '65 VW work car was $13.25...in 1982.

Washington state used to have an Excise tax on all motor vehicles, paid each year when you renewed your registration. It basically amounted to paying sales tax each year on the assessed value of the vehicle. Took a vote of the people to get rid of that. Now I only pay $105/yr. on my 19 year old ghetto coach.
