Good Sam Insurance Increase $133

Got my Good Sam (National General) Insurance renewal and noted that it went up $133 from last year. No accidents or claims. I have been shopping for insurance and 3 other companies are over $100 cheaper for the same coverage. So far the best has been Allied and Explorer. Havn't checked AARP Hartford which has our insurance for cars and home. Anyone else noticed a increase? Looks like I will be looking for RV insurance elsewhere.

Good Sam Insurance Increase $133

Learned an interesting lesson yesterday. I saw an earlier post about great rates from Hartford AARP. Went on their site and got what I thought was an unbelievable rate. Almost $300 less than what I thought was a real good rate with Progressive. I was about to enter my credit card and buy the policy when I decided to call and ask a few questions. Found out the following was not included in their rate
1. No contents coverage - said homeowners should cover it.... Wrong
2. Roadside was limited to $50 per occurrence.
3. Glass coverage has same deductible as collision
4. No trip interruption insurance available.

It was at that point I realized that my Progressive rate was a steal! Clearly the rate is a teaser. When I got done pricing out everything that was on my current Progressive policy, the rate was almost $700 higher. Their online quote does not allow you to see the declaration page. It just asks you to select a few basic coverage amounts. But that is all you can do and really all you get, basic coverage. Beware!

$133 a month or a year? A month, shop it. A year, I'd probably keep it.

What kills me is that the reason my rates went up is not because I did anything but because everyone else in Missouri sucks at driving. Thank you Geico for encouraging me to be a good driver.

They always have to have an excuse... Few years back I noticed my Progressive rate was going up... So I called and asked why. The young lady explained that Progressive had a new "algorithm". And I said OK, but why did my rate go up... She said "because of my age when I first applied for a credit card!" I was 60 years old, no claims or tickets and because I didn't apply for credit card until my 20s my insurance rate was going up... 40 YEARS LATER!! That was my last day with Progressive!!

Well I got my problem resolved. I cancelled my Good Sam (National General) and went back to AARP for a savings of $175 which ended up cheaper than National General was when I bought it through Good Sam a year ago. I got quotes from several companies. Here is a list according to the cheapest one 1st.
1. AARP Hartford were the cheapest, but my homes and other vehicles are insured with them.
2. Progressive (Within $50 of Hartford)
3. Allied (Within $50 of Hartford)
4. Explorer (within $75 of Hartford)
5. Formost, Geico, and a couple of Others all of which were $300 to $400 more for the same or less coverage.

Just paid for a year of Hartford through AARP. Saved about $2,000 over Allied. I sure hope the quote and payment I made is correct!
Now I need to call them and add the full glass coverage. It wasn't even mentioned as an option on the website nor on the phone. I assumed it was included and it isn't!
