Goodyear G670 RV tire discontinued???

Talked to Big O tire in Prescott, AZ this morning. Need a warranty adjustment and a replacement tire.

245/70 19.5

Was informed that the G670 RV was discontinued. Was offered a Michelin XRV ($388 out the door), or Sumotomo ($260 OTD)

Costco has the XRV for $313 +tax ( 8.25%)

Paid ~$395 (OTD) for the tire 3 yrs ago.

Anyone else having trouble finding the G670?

The G670 RV is still listed on the Goodyear website: Goodyear RV Tires || Unisteel® G670 RV® ||

I don't know, I bought all six current tires from them. They got the info from the distributors.

Just received a reply from Goodyear on the G670

Tim

Now for more likely Big O problem. I took my tire in for warranty adjustment. It had a couple of knots, quarter and nickel sized, at the first groove in the tread (front tire, outside edge). That edge was worn more than the other side. Tire is 3 years old, 20Kmiles. The other front tire is 2 years, 10K miles, no sign of abnormal wear.

I was told that the tire was bad, separation, caused by alignment problem, or not being rotated! It therefore was not a warranty issue.

I have never heard of alignment or rotation causing tread separation. Has anyone here heard of that? May have to find a new tire dealer.

I used to think I liked the G670, but this is the 3rd one I have had problems with. I thought the first two may have been under inflation, now I not sure!

Got a sidewall knot in a barely 5 year old G670 last November. 42k mile son it and it should have been good for another year or two. I replaced it and its mate with more G670's cause that was what was available in my size on short notice, but I'll be looking at other brands when it comes time to do the other 4. Bridgestone and Yokohoma are high on my list (less expensive than Michelin and every bit as good, in my opinion).

Alignment and rotation cannot cause a tread separation, no way, no how. They just didn't want to fool with a tire warranty because it's such a pain to get approval from Goodyear. They are the worst in the industry to deal with.

lllkrob: You apparently have never delt with Michlin if you think Goodyear is bad. Everyone has an opinion on this subject, but, my personal dealings tell me to RUN away from a Michlin. Have had 3 alligator blowouts with Michlin and they were all my fault: either overloaded (I know my corner weights ,), under-inflated (run crossfire system on duals so all you have to do is look at the gage to see the pressure range and check fronts before every trip) or I ran over a butterfly, which damaged the tires. A bicycle tire made by Michlin is too dangerous for me!
As for the original post, Big O tires just don't want to honor the warranty. Talk directly to Goodyear and get their suggestion for a qualified dealer.

It is possible.

If the alignment is off, the tire is creating more heat on the outside edge. Heat is one of the reasons for a tire to separate. Just depends on how much heat was created and over how many miles.

What can I, since 2001 our units have had Michelins installed, no zippers or blow outs.

I had my 2008 Challenger at the local Goodyear Truck Center yesterday for balance and alignment. Service said that most of my vibration was tire issue but not bad enough for Goodyear to replace them. He said run them until the vibration bothered me too much and then replace them. I have the G670 and he had them in stock but recommended Continentals which were $100 per tire cheaper.

Follow up on my tire situation.

Went back to BigO today, the owner is back in town. He looked at the tire and said GY would not do anything because they would call it a mechanical problem, i.e., alignment or rotation. I told him I thought the separation cause the wear, not the other way around, and he said he would not disagree with me, just stating what GY's response would be.

So, given that GY will not do any thing, what will BigO do? I asked. He said sell me one at his cost and no labor for M&B.

"Houston, we have a problem!" His cost $340.00 +tax since BigO did not carry them anymore (that's where the discontinued statement in OP came from). I paid $330 +++ for the tire three years ago! I know, prices have gone up on everything!

Then he price a Sumitomo @ $150 (his cost) +tax, OTD, but it is a load range F, I wanted G. He also mentioned non steel sidewall, and should not mix steel, non stell on front, but it could be done, just may cause a little wandering.

So...., what price for second tire tire??? Same as first plus $20 M&B.

So $345.00 OTD for 2 new one. And he will send the tire to GY and give me any credit that he is allowed. Will take my spare in tomorrow. It is load range F and has 10,000 miles on it but a date code of 449 (wk 44 1999) Looks like a good oppertunity to update my spare.

When talking to them (non bosses) last week I was quoted $265 each OTD. Another local shop quoted $285.

I have never used Sumitomo, but the price is sure right! Wish me luck!

Harold,

In case you hadn't seen the post yet giving the link, Goodyear is offering a $50 rebate per tire in your size. Might make your decision to by two a little easier.
