Ground clearance judgment

Newbie question....how do you judge ground clearance ?
I have been looking at the Palazzo which looks pretty low but MH with longer wheelbases could also have a problem. There is a road near where I live that I go over all the time in my car but would not even consider in something larger as I Am sure it would high center going over the railroad track and then drag the tail coming off the incline.

Did not have this problem in Army trucks!

Your doing a good job at it now, most peopls would not think about RR tracks like that. It depends on the hill going up to and down the other side, you might have to find another route to your house. Army trucks have that higher center and are shorter.

It helps going across at a angle.
I don't understand the Palazzo has a GVWR of 26K and a GCWR of 30K.
So you can pull anything as long it isn't over 4K lb.
Yet they put a 10K hitch on it ???

Look at it from a different angle . . . . RR crossings that would cause a rig to high center when attempting the traverse, would probably do fine IF the driver waited for a lull in traffic, and took the crossing at a angle.

If you have to ask that question: You might consider applying to MENSA cause you are smarter than many out there (Mensa is the top 2 percent, I'd put in in the top 10%)

Seriously since you ask how I judge clearance.. I (like most) did not think about it when I signed on the line but I also got lucky

I'm 6'3" by 325 pounds,, Been heavier, and there are only about six places I can not crawl around under the motor home with the wheels firmly on the ground

The jacks, and the front suspension.. Of course I can reach any point under the motor home with no problems.. I took it in for an oil change and lube yesterday (among other ork, over $1K worth) and they never used a hoist, Just slid under on creepers.

Now that, I show I judge ground clearance.. DO I FIT UNDER IT. if I ever get another MH, that will be one of the tests I do BEFORE I sign.

Thanks WA8YXM, I had not even thought of that kind of ground clearance! Thanks for the heads up. I was focused on the steep incline and possibility of scraping the tail or high center over things like railroad tracks.

I'm qualifed for Mensa, just don't want to belong to a club that sets themselves apart by how smart they are!

I haven't found any road anywhere that I've grounded out on and that includes one road on the way into the Spartan factory that goes over a railroad. Don't even have to cross at an angle. I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm saying that in 14 years of driving Type A MH's I haven't bottomed out on any road I've been on.
