Has anyone actually added an aux fuel tank

I'd like to know if anyone has actually added an auxiliary fuel tank to their class I diesel?
I have read and understand the pros and cons of doing it but I have a free fuel tank and plenty of room in my basement. I'm retired and pretty handy mechanically so I feel confident there will be no labor cost and parts will be a minimum expense.

My 2003 discovery has a aux tank that the previous owner installed. I believe it's another 100 gallons. It's really really nice. It's stainless and it looks factory. Only thing I'm not hoped up on is the install on the filler neck. Kinda cheesball. But. On that note. I have never used it. I don't travel far enough to justify another 100 gallons of fuel. So far. I do use it roughly 12-15 weekends or more a year. I still have a job and 36 years old so can only go when kids are out of school and we're not working. Iv been thinking about pulling it out and making it extra water because we dry camp most of the time. If you would like pictures let me know

It's not so much a need as a want. I have the parts and skills to install it, we're not full timers but mostly it would allow me to be VERY selective about when and where to fill up. Which means I don't have to buy fuel in high priced areas.

My only concern would be the added weight. That weight whatever it is would reduce carrying capacity. If you don't take much with you I guess it wouldn't be a problem.

I have a friend that mounted a aux tank in the bed of the truck SHE pulls behind HER coach. Back when diesel was $5.00 a gallon we all wished we could buy more for 10cents a gallon cheaper!

Weight would be a consideration. Ensure you are not overloading tires and axles.

If it were me and could add the extra fuel tank to a DP or gasser I would hook it up to the Generator and place a gauge on the dash so I could monitor it. By doing so would now allow me to use the generator without worrying about running out of fuel for the RV. It would also allow me to get a better picture on actual mpg's.
But this is just my .000001cents worth of advice.

Your genset will never run you out of fuel. They are sucking out of the top 2/3 or 3/4 of your tank only.
