Has anyone ever ADDED a ceiling fan??
I am thinking of adding a ceiling fan over the bed of my 2000 Discovery. I had one in my previous coach and I miss it!
I found some 12 volt ceiling fans for RV's on EBAY. Question is: Has anyone on here ever added a ceiling fan and is it difficult to do?
Do I just have to find the bracing in the ceiling and attach the fan then locate a power source from maybe a ceiling light fixture. The fan Im looking at comes with a remote control.
Thoughts? Experiences? Ideas? TIA
Glen

We added one in our 2001 Winnebago Adventurer. We took down the original ceiling light and replaced it with the fan. We used hollow wall anchors like these:
https://www.homedepot.ca/product/pau...pcs/1000409785
We replaced the original light with one with a built in switch (the original switch was on the wall) and moved it closer to the door using the same anchors. We then tapped into the original power wire for both units.
When using the fan only we left the wall switch in the on position and the switch on the new light in the off position. The fan was then controlled by the remote.
WE got our fan in 2006 from PPL Motorhomes. It was installed in the summer of 2006 and was still running fine in 2013 when we traded the motorhome in with over 110,000 miles on the odometer.
We purchased our 2013 Adventurer with a ceiling fan installed at the factory.
Make sure to position your fan where it won't interfere with the slides when they are retracted. The location for the original ceiling light in our motorhome just happened to be the perfect location.

I had it done by a professional mod shop. It worked out very well and completely upgraded our enjoyment of the coach. The shop is Paul's RV in Indiana.

I installed the following ceiling fan in our RV (they have a larger size if you can fit it).
https://www.rvandmarine.com/product/...v-ceiling-fan/
Our RV had a ceiling light, so it was a simple job to replace the light with this fan. I did have to make a wooden plate to cover the opening left by the light which I then mounted the fan to. This unit is controlled by the remote, so no additional wiring was needed, I just leave the light switch on. If you have a bedroom slide, make sure you have the required clearance when the slide is in.
The DW didn't like that we no longer had any ceiling lights, so I added these on either side by tapping into the fan wiring.

So, I always leave the wall switch on, control the fan by the remote, and turn the ceiling lights on manually when needed.

If you are over 6’ tall I would not go real large. I am but our “new” rig has the higher ceiling so getting hit by it is not an issue.

Did you have any concerns about the added weight and rotational forces? Ours has all LED lighting so I'm guessing those boxes won't support much weight, if there even are boxes.

Easy to do. Spend the money and get a Fantastic Fan. Costs more. Quality always does. Should be a light handy to get power from. 14” square hole is all that’s needed.

Ceiling fan, not exhaust fan.

Ours are the old style florescent fixtures. They are mounted to the ceiling framework, so I just attached mine to that framework. Don't know how your LEDs are secured to the ceiling.

We added one to our 05 Newmar KSDP. It was a Global brand, obtained from Amazon (where else?).
I probably over did it, but I took out the light and use those wires, added the control box onto the wall by the light switch, ran new wires through those surface mount conduit things from Home Depot, and made it all look nice.
The fan has a remote control, 5 speeds and is 42" across. Works really well. We hope the new owners enjoy it.
Our current coach does not have a practical way to mount a fan. Maybe we can trade back......................

Anyone know the typical clearance from the ceiling of these fans. We have some fixture that we would need to clear with the blades. The information on every site only tells you the drop from the ceiling to the bottom of the blades but doesn't give to the top of the blades. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine came with one. Works well either to help circulate Ac/heat thru coach, or just that little “breeze” with windows open.

The blades are angled - the further you you get from center, the greater the clearance. The smallest ( @ 6" from center) is 3 1/4". Hope this helps.
