I've been surprised that "Doorbell Ringer with Video/Voice" setups aren't standard on Class A motorhomes. Or at least as an option which I've not seen either.

I for one would like to answer the door with an audio/visual setup without having to get up to tell the Avon lady to go away! Seriously though, I'm sure many of you have set this up on your own. And today it shouldn't require any tools or a drill to set it up, right?

What did you set up for your coach? And while we're talking about it what other security measures have you set up? Not only for when you're in your coach but when you're not? Even the times you're in a restaurant eating with your Coach/toad in the parking lot?

I had one. Standard on my coach Disabled it. DW hated it.
A knock always works, anywhere on the rig!

Hey Dave, what didn't your wife like about it? Do you have anything for security on your coach?

If they get past the dead bolt, they are welcome to my chocolate covered coffee beans and such.
DW didn't like the quiet musical tone after a lifetime of having folks knock at the S&B, or, for those that know us...just walk in.
No security! We don't go to places where we would not feel secure.

Do you think perps will ring your door bell?

A knock is OK. Samuel Colt handles security.

I think what I was getting at is traveling and eating at a Cracker Barrel, or shopping or overnighting at Walmart, etc. I thought it may be a good idea to have cameras or something like that.

And from the doorbell standpoint I wasn't thinking about it in the RV park. I was thinking more about while traveling so you didn't need to open or yell through the door.

I know you can overdo it but I thought some basic precautions could be in order.

We shop with the toad after parking the rig.
Cameras are toys. They add nothing to the end result. I would rather call the cops and then my insurance company.
I leave lots of stuff outside. Nothing ever walked away....except a bag of apples left on the table. Racoons!
Door knocks are not a worry. Go where you feel safe!
Relax. That's what being out here is about.

We were never concerned during our 16 years of full-timing in campgrounds, out in the boonies or parked for shopping or lunch. Didn't have any kind of 'security' device.

How many times have you had a problem??

We have been RVing for 40+ years and have never had a problem. Not even a hint of a problem.

If someone knocks we don't just open our door, we do look out the window first but then if we are home the door is unlocked.

10 years full-time on the road and 30 countries including Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Bolivia as well as the Balkans in Europe, Morocco, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia and we have never had any problems with people who knock on the side of the RV. No problems in the US either except for a black bear that wanted to climb up the back of the motorhome without asking.

I have been using a 2 piece motion sensor alarm occasionally when I wasn't too lazy to set it outside after stopping.

I like having it chime when a person or car gets near. I then look outside and see what's going on.

I would put the sensor either on the ground or wherever the aiming worked best.

It's been a good device to let me know somethings near. I don't get many false alarms but once in awhile I do. That doesn't bother me.

Well, this week, I put heavy duty velcro on the sensor to attach it to the front of the rig, pointed straight forward. Now I don't have to go out and place it somewhere and retrieve it before moving.

This is working great. The battery powered receiver has an on/off so I just shut the receiver off when moving and I dont hear continual chimes. I have the receiver in the bedroom usually. I can turn it on at bedtime only or anytime the situation is right.

I'm going to velcro a second sender on the rear. I own 4 of these sensor kits each on it's own frequency.

I painted the sensor with "off the shelf" spray paint which closely matches the rig. The motion sensor mits are $17.
