Head Light Switch
Anyone need help finding the correct part number for the head light switch in a 1997 D? I had to replace mine recently and had a devil of a time finding the correct 8 pole switch. An old timer in a LV Car Quest store helped me out so IF I can pass it along, I would be happy to.

A lot of older coaches use headlight & ignition, switches from a mid 70's Chev , P/u. is that what you ended up with.

My 2005 Newmar appears to be from a mid-70s to ? Oldsmobile.

Here's a picture of the 70's Chev P/U headlight switch.
On the underside is a spring loaded release button for the knob shaft.

Nope the switch that I got was an 8 pole switch with he same configuration that is on my D and it is from a 1970, HD Ford Van, Car quest Part Number, DS-1346 and priced at $42.48, my costs was $25.49 in LV no less. I was quite surprised and VERY pleased to have my head lights, running lights and dash lights working again. Never could find a blown fuse or what caused the malfunction just that it was burnt out. Supposedly it happened quite often back in the 70's but they used it until 1987 when they went to the 9 pole switches they have on the units now.

Sure looks like the one I got as well. the little push button to release the knob shaft was not mentioned anywhere that I could find. I only found it by feeling around under my dash for a way to get the switch out of the dash. Once I pressed it and released the shaft it was an easy removal/replace.

You will find switches from that era had a circuit breaker built into the switch. These breakers were known to fail for no good reason. The headlamp side of the switch was fed by a wire directly from an unfused power source. The running lamp and dash lamp side was fused. Later applications also used a fusible link wire as a backup to the switch breaker.

Please disregard my earlier posting about the correct Part Number for the head light switch for a 1997 D. I gave the wrong part number. The CORRECT PART NUMBER AND COST IS "bwd s149p" and the cost was $45.79. I apologize for the inconvienence caused to any one. I will try to do better in the future.
