Headlight Adjustment/Alignment

As soon as the joys of winter depart my area I plan on replacing my aged headlight assemblies. For those that have done it or have any knowledge of it, are there any tried and true methods for aligning the headlights? We seldom travel at night but in the event we do or must I'd like to have some assurance that they will shine where they are supposed to and give me as much advantage as possible.

Thanks

If you google do it yourself headlight alignment, you'll have many listings with instructions. Here's one.
