Help Considering A Used Monaco Diplomat

We are ready to purchase a previously owned coach

The coach that we are looking at is a 2005 Monaco Diplomat with a 350HP Cummins, this coach has 27,000 miles on it.

Does anyone that owns this manufacture have any tips of things that we should be aware of in the quality or durability, likes or dislikes?

We see a lot of them on the road & in RV Parks but we haven't talked with anyone about this brand.

Thank you in advance.

We purchased a 2006 Holiday Rambler Endeavor (same as a Monaco Diplomat) last October and we are very pleased with it.

Our Endeavor is very nice on the inside but I have found a couple of things that I need to do.

1. Replace the rear tires due to age. I new this when I bought it.
2. Replaced all 8 shock absorbers with Bilstiens because the original Monroes were wore out at 37K miles.
3. Common but unknown to me at purchase was the clear coat on the roof edges is pealing off. I have been quoted between $1500 and $3500 to repair it.

I also replaced the RCA DVD/Surround receiver with a Samsung Blu Ray surround receive due to it failing. I did not replace the speakers but it all sounds great to us.

Just make sure everything works on the Diplomat you are looking at. Know that there will be things that need attention.

Like buying a used car nothings perfect. I did purchase an extended warranty for piece of mind but that's me.

Good Luck

Paul

Find out what chassis it has. Biggest thing to look for is the Roadmaster chassis RR4R.
I may not have the correct spelling. Its a 4 air bag chassis. It will have a recall for broken trailing arms. You must get this done BEFORE you buy this from dealer. Get the Vin number and check it out.

You don't need to worry about this on the Diplomat. Totally different coach, different chassis. The Diplomat has an 8 air bag chassis.

One more thing, is the 350 cummins enough to push this coach down the road? The weight of a 40' coach seems like a lot.

According to the Monaco Diplomat 2005 Brochure it has the Cummins 400hp ISL engine with the Allison 3000 6spd. This is plenty of power.

You may want to post this in the owners forum(Monaco) at the top of the page.

The OP says it's a 350 horse but the Monaco brochure says 400 ISL.

Mine has the 400 ISL and I had the dreaded exhaust leak crop up a few weeks ago.

A friend helped me remove the manifold and I used his Bridgeport mill to machine the manifold flat. I replaced the gaskets and bolts at a cost of around $100 for parts.

A new manifold runs around $300.

This is a very common failure starting at around 30,000 miles.
