HELP! Engine will not shut down
I've tried everything but disconnect battery not sure that would work either. I've pulled ignition fuses , ignition relays, and disconnected the harness from the ignition switch. So far nothing will shut it down.
Cat 3126 engine, freightliner chassis.

Removing 12 VDC from the fuel solenoid shuts down the engine.

I too had an occasion when my CAT C10 engine would not shut down. In my case I believe it was the ignition solenoid ( may go by other names such as ignition relay). I shut the engine off with the kill switch in the engine compartment, switched off the engine batteries and pounded on the ignition solenoid with a large pair of pliers. After resetting the kill switch and reconnecting the engine batteries, all was fine. That all happened about 6 months ago and I replaced the solenoid shortly after that and haven't had a problem since.

Where is that solenoid? Is this it?

Batteries are disconnected and engine is still running. Only thing o have left to do is disconnect at alternator and I really don't want to be in that close to the belt working even if I am on the back side of the alternator.

don't you have an emergency engine shut off button? typically a yellow bush button in engine bay, easy to reach. kill the engine first.

It a diesel and it's doing what diesels do. Cut off your fuel supply at the filter. That's easier than cutting off the air supply.

Truck Repair: Engine won't shut down, newmar motorhome, ambient air temperature
Just something to look into, Are all the batteries un hooked? house and chassis? A mechanical engine would have a 12 v solenoid valve, A electronic engine a ECM.........
Look on the curb side of the engine for the fuel pump, and look for a solenoid valve w/wires going to it??? If you see something like this, it is a mechanical engine, unhook the wire and should stop, on these solenoid type fuel systems, there is a bypass screw on the fuel pump to bypass the solenoid valve, also look for a thumb screw to turn?????

Cut off the fuel. I don't know your engine but there is probably a fuse in your electrical bay for the fuel pump. Disconnecting the batteries could damage the alternator. There may be an emergency shut off in the engine bay, but not always. Cutting off the air will work, but use something SOLID. A rag or bag will simply be sucked into the engine.

Sounds crazy but some Cats use alternator power to shut down. If the alt is bad, it will start to shut down and then return to idle. In that case we could pull up on the throttle lever to shut down. I don`t know if you can do that on that engine. You could try a hot wire to the shut down coil.
