Help, I stepped on my shower skylight, 2005 Monaco Diplomat

Hello friends.

I did a very stupid thing today, in an attempt to clear snow from the roof of our 05 Diplomat I managed to step right on (and through) the plastic shower skylight. We're in the midst of a freak blizzard and now there's a hole in my roof!

I was able to tarp it and stop an snow from entering, however I need to repair it promptly and due to the conditions here in Buffalo driving to the dealer is not an option.

Can anyone tell me if the replacement part is readily available? The trim piece inside the coach is also badly cracked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Monaco, they should be able to give you the manufacturers name.

Is there a website or 1800 number?

You're a braver man than I, I'd never climb on the roof in that weather. Hope you get it replaced soon.

Yes I realize now it was a bad idea. I was just worried about stressing the roof with all that snow. Now I have an even bigger problem.

It seems all of the aftermarket skylights are only a single layer of tinted plastic. I'm going to need the inner portion as well, including the interior trim piece. I'm guessing I'll have to get that from Monaco directly.

You might be able to get what you need quicker and cheaper from one of the salvage yards. I've had very good luck with Visone RV on several items.

Considering the amount of snow that you have gotten, and the amount that they are forcasting for your area, getting delivery is going to be a problem.

You didn't say how big the hole in the skylight was, but I would think about some sort of bracing under the tarp.

Best of luck with your repair.

I would make sure the damaged area is multi-layered with tarp, and weighted and secured against wind, and I would leave it until the weather moderates and it can be worked on safely. The intervening time will allow you to procure the required parts and be ready to roll when you're able.

There's no need to be trying to get parts delivered during a snow emergency, and you certainly shouldn't be climbing on the roof in heavy snow.

This is not a freak blizzard, it is lake-effect snow, a well known occurrence that visits Buffalo several times every year. Just a bit heavier this time. Have a glass of wine. Your coach will be fine. The snow will stop and the temperature will rise. Temps forecast in the 50s next week.

I've lived in Buffalo my whole life (30 years) and this is the most snowfall I've seen in this short a period of time. Thanks everyone for the advice, fortunately I was able to tarp and secure the area and I've returned to the safety of my home for the time being.
